Aaliyah has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Junior World Championships and Youth Olympic Games Qualifiers in Tunisia
Hi everyone,
My name is Aaliyah Powell;
I compete in the Olympic sport of Taekwondo and I am excited to say that I have been selected to represent Great Britain at the forthcoming Junior World Championships (9th- 13th) and the youth Olympic Games Qualifiers both Held in Hammamet, Tunisia this April.
The youth Olympic Games qualification takes place on the 6th-8th April for the chance to qualify for the Youth Olympic Games , held in Buenos Aires, Argentina this October. I am extremely proud and honoured to have the opportunity to compete for my country as this is something that I have trained very hard for.
I have just finished my first year as a junior athlete, during which I became British champion and also won Gold at several international competitions in Belgium; The Netherlands and Greece. I ended the year by winning a silver medal in the Junior European Championships in Cyprus and received the GB development female athlete of the year award. I would now like the opportunity to test myself at world level.
Unfortunately these tournaments are all self funded and therefore I would appreciate any help from my friends, family and the wider community to help me continue on my journey. Long term, my goal is to become a full time athlete at GB Taekwondo and win medals at World Championships and Olympic Games.
