I’m an AAdvocate for Addiction treatment services. This is my third GoFundMe campaign and I’m hoping it will confirm what I’ve observed over the past 15 months: Crowdfunding through social media is the ideal way to reach fellow AAdvocates and raise funds for immediate impact for a specific cause. Through this campaign, I hope to raise awareness to incredible organizations in Behavioral Health and Addiction Treatment that already exist but need funding to thrive. GoFundme offers transparency to what is raised, and I will remain accountable to you all through monthly updates on how the funds are allocated to partner organizations.
Since finding my passion and changing careers in April 2018 to work for provider of Addiction Treatment, I’ve followed every rabbit hole to learn the real needs in the field and bridge gaps for people in recovery with limitations in Transportation, Housing, and Employment. I call these three variables the “Bermuda Triangle” of recovery, because without at least two of these fundamental resources, people with Addiction are unable to complete a treatment plan. A treatment plan is designed to give a patient optimal results after a procedure or treatment, and it’s just as critical to recovery in Addiction Treatment as anywhere else in healthcare. Having said that, the waiting rooms of healthcare providers are not full of patients who followed “The Treatment Plan” …and the those struggling with mental health and Addiction issues have the hardest time.
Without transportation, housing and employment, a treatment plan goes from a linear strategy to a potluck. Then, when compounded by the common collateral consequences that people with Addiction face when they discharge from inpatient treatment or prison, recovery seems like an impossible task. I’m here writing my third GoFundMe campaign not because recovery is impossible, but because I’ve had the unique pleasure of helping many people get into treatment and recover from Addiction.
