"Almost, Maine" FAU

Donation protected
It's very hard for me to ask for money. However, this is incredibly important to me and the rest of my cast for the sake of art.

Over the past summer, I was approved to direct my very own production of "Almost, Maine" through my theatre fraternity on campus. This would be the last creative thing I get to experiment with as I graduate in May. We cast the show in late August and began rehearsal one week later.

I was a BFA Theatre major, for my first year at FAU until I switched to Political Science as it better suited my goals for the future. Directing has one of my biggest passions. It's helped me heal and it's helped me grow.

I learned in high school how much art heals. I lost 3 close friends in high school when I directed a show called "Proof," where each night, I honored them by taking ticket proceeds and donating to their respected charities. Giving back with art has been incredibly important to me. This is the reason I do art.

Many of my cast members are new to FAU and this is their first production on campus. They have all been working incredibly hard on this show. We rehearse weekdays and weekends, countlessly perfecting our craft. Not only have we all become a big family as a cast, but we have all perfected our craft of theatre over the months and grew together as a cast.

3 weeks before we are supposed to open, there was an issue with my fraternity securing the rights through administrative issues within our school. We were informed this Friday, we begin tech the week after Thanksgiving.

This almost cut the show, until I applied and obtained the rights myself. My cast deserves to show their hard work and bring art into the community.

$500 for rights is a lot for a college student. This was an unexpected bump in the road, but we still want to put on our show. This show is 100% student-run as well a show that gives back to the community.

This show is also shedding light on issues within abuse in relationships, LGBT issues and donations at the door will be used towards "The Trevor Project, " with the goal of ending suicide within the LGBTQ youth community.

Our own cast member, Abigail Howard, runs her own nonprofit organization called "Project Micah 6:8 " which is dedicated to ending human trafficking.

This show is free, but donations to either organization will be accepted at the door via venmo or cash.

Donating to this not only lets us express ourselves in art, but helps us heal in times of sadness and chaos in our current political and social climate.  This project means the world to my cast and me.

Show dates are 11/30 (7 pm) 12/1 (2 pm and 7 pm) 12/2 (2 pm and 7 pm) with suggested donations at the door.

The show location is FAU Studio 2 Theatre (tentatively) in Boca Raton, FL at the Arts and Letters building on the first floor.

With your donation, you have no idea how grateful my cast, crew and myself will be. This has meant the world to us. Anything helps. Thank you for taking your time to read this. We're going to keep rehearsing to put on an incredible show for the community. We hope you can make it.

***It's $600 as each donation has a processing fee and we want to make sure we reach $500. Any excess funds will be split equally and donated to both charities, listed above.
