Luke is always smiling. He has a smile that can light up a room. Always active. Always up for some fun.
You would never know he has pain and that every day he struggles. He was born with what he called "his fat foot". With every growth spurt the fat foot turned into a larger lower leg, then to a larger whole leg. Luke was diagnosed with Lymphedema. There has never been a lot of answers, and the doctors tried to treat what they could see. Two weeks ago the news came.
The words a mother never wants to hear. IT IS CANCER.
Angiosarcoma. It was the word that changed the war. It is a skin cancer that is rare especially in children. It comes from the lymphedema of Luke's leg. The medical team at the Children's Hospital of Penn State have given the options of Chemo therapy and possible amputation of Luke's leg. Kim has sought out a specialist in New York for Sarcomas, to see if there are any other options than losing the leg. Kim and Luke need our help.
They need money to help get him a posture bed that will be able to raise the legs to help drain the lymphedema, and get the pressure off of the painful sores on that leg. They need help with travel arangements to see a Sarcoma specialist in New York. They need help with medical bills. Kim has had to take family medical leave to take on the full time job of being the best nurse a boy could ask for. It is up to us to help!
