Memorial for the Unborn

Located in the picturesque small town of Fiskdale (Sturbridge), Massachusetts, Saint Anne Shrine is a sanctuary of peace and tranquility. It is situated on 35 acres of natural woodland, and is a place of respite, comfort, and spiritual refreshment. The Shrine is open year round and has hosted visitors nationally and internationally for more than 100 years.
From almost the inception of our Pro-Life Ministry, we have felt that our Shrine is lacking in one area, and have wanted to have a special place that would be devoted to the unborn, where those touched by loss of an unborn child, can find comfort and healing. We have found a beautiful and moving statue that we would like to be the centerpiece of our memorial area.
The artist, Sondra Johnson, designed "Rachel Weeping" to show Rachel kneeling in prayer, cradling an empty blanket, reflecting a society bereaved of its children, yet a society looking to God for healing and redemption. The rose at Rachel's side is a sign of her confidence in God and hope for her future.
Rachel, the Matriarch of Israel in the Old Testament, was heard weeping for her children during the Jewish exile (Jeremiah 31: 15-16) and again during Herod's slaughter of the innocents (Matthew 2:18). In recent years, Rachel has come to symbolize the spiritual battle being waged to preserve the gift of life in a culture which loses many unborn children .
We are planning a two-part campaign, with the first part being the purchase of the statue. The $7,500 we are seeking is to cover the cost of the statue, crating and shipping.
