A World of Opportunity-Foothills Robotics 2019

In its fourth year, Foothills Middle School has created a world-class program, sending at least one team to the VEX IQ World Championship in Kentucky every year. This year, two teams have qualified for Worlds. One Girl Powered team, consisting of 5 female students: two 6th graders, one 7th Grader, and two 8th graders. The other team is an all-male group consisting of one 6th grader, two 7th graders, and one 8th grader.

Teams may qualify for Worlds in several categories once they reach the State Championship. Our all-male team qualified with their robot in the Teamwork Challenge which requires them to collaborate with another team to complete a specified challenge. Foothills Middle School Robotics is dedicated to serving all students who are interested. This means students are not required to try out or “pay to play.” Through the dedication of committed parents, community members, students, and coaches, fundraising, grant-writing, and donations fund the regular season. The cost increases as teams qualify for Worlds.

The World Competition is held at the end of April in Kentucky.  Around 400 middle school teams from more than 36 countries will come together to compete at the world’s larger robotics competition. Through this experience, students learn a multitude of skills in not only the STEM field, but in other areas as well. Research, problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and perseverance are all critical skills students glean from their experience with this program.

We need your help!  Traveling from Wenatchee, Washington with nine students, two coaches, and a couple of chaperones is expensive. From airfare, ground transportation, meals and lodging to registration fees, the expense to travel across the country adds up quickly.

In order to ensure all students can participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, we are asking for your help! Your donation supports these students in an experience to utilize the skills they’ve learned throughout the year with students from different cultures, overcoming language and cultural differences to reach a common goal. In short, your contribution is an investment in an experience that these students will carry with them forever.

Every dollar counts. Thank you for your support.
