A Tribe Called Maceo

Any parent can tell you that having a sick child is rough. But, imagine taking your child to the hospital to figure out the cause of the nightly fevers that the doctor at the clinic couldn’t explain THEN spending the entire night awake with your child undergoing tests in the ER. Imagine hoping for an answer to your prayers for a good night’s rest and instead you are told your child would be transferred to the oncology unit for more tests to, fingers-crossed, rule out cancer.

Yani and Michael found themselves facing this reality in July. Maceo, who is not yet 4, underwent a bone marrow biopsy on July 19 which revealed the cause of his fevers- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (or ALL), a shocking diagnosis for the family and friends of this energetic and cuddly dinosaur connoisseur.

The good news is that ALL is very treatable and the caring and capable oncology team at Seattle Children’s fully anticipate Maceo to kick this cancer!

Many of us know someone who has had cancer and have witnessed the long road to remission. We are reaching out in hopes that you will join us in supporting Maceo, his parents Yani and Michael who have been at his side constantly and his siblings Diaz and Solaya who are, no doubt, impacted by all of this.

We are asking for you to make a donation to reduce the stress of the financial burden that the 3-year treatment will put on the family. We hope this will allow them to focus on caring for Maceo through the rigorous chemotherapy.

Michael and Yani have been overwhelmed with gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from everyone. They feel especially fortunate to live here in Seattle where they are in the world-class care of providers at Seattle Children’s Hospital.
