It’s the end of another superb year of Advent Running and a few of us were discussing what we might do to show a little appreciation for everything James has done for us all this year.
Some of you may be aware that, in 2015, James ran the Western States 100 – one of the most prestigious ultra-races in the world. As we are all aware, James isn’t one to talk about his achievements. However, he brought his Western States buckle to drinks after the AR launch party this year. It remains the only buckle I have ever seen James ‘show off’ and I got the sense he is particularly proud of it.
We asked James why he didn’t have the buckle properly mounted, framed, or better yet put on a belt so that he can wear it – something that awesome shouldn’t just sit in a box! James didn’t really have a good answer; we got the sense that it was something he has been thinking about for a while, but just never gotten around to.
After discussing it with Anna and others, we thought it might be a nice present to get a pot of money together for James so that he could finally get a belt, frame or stand for the buckle. We are therefore asking people to donate a few pounds (please not more than £10 each), towards a group Christmas present, to James, from all of us. The money raised will be sent to Anna, who will then take James on a shopping trip so he can pick what he would like. Any leftover money will then be given to James to cover one or more race entries in 2019.
Anna will give James the good news on Christmas morning, so please do get any donations in before then. And, of course, NO ONE TELL JAMES!
