A Service Dog for Clio Nelson

Donation protected
We are trying to raise $25,000 to get a service dog for our sweet daughter Clio.

Clio is 16 years old and lives San Luis Obispo, CA. In 2012, Clio was diagnosed with a rare vascular malformation called Arteriovenous malformation. There is not a cure for AVMs. In 2014, she grew a second vascular mass and was diagnosed with an even rarer genetic disorder called Cowden Syndrome.

Although our beautiful young lady is a fighter when it comes to her exceptionalities, Clio's always has to be cautious of her actions to ensure she doesn’t traumatize her AVM to avoid bleeding out.

A service dog would assist her with being aware of her surroundings to avoid any potential injuries to her arm, alert others she is bleeding if she is injured and also be emotional support for her resultant Anxiety that has developed from living with her diagnosis. Unfortunately, while Clio does have insurance, service animals are not covered by it.

There are so many wonderful things to tell you about Clio, but first and foremost, she is a huge animal lover. Ever since she was a little girl, she loved animals of all types, especially dogs. She is an avid writer, and photographer and hopes to put them together with a career in filmmaking. She is a huge advocate for community members facing hard physical and emotional challenges both at school and in our local community.  When she’s not doing school work, meeting deadlines as an editor for the high school newspaper or taking photos, she’s singing to her favorite songs, brainstorming story concepts with friends or at her favorite coffee shop.

Clio has always been determined to not have her diagnosis define her, but rather to be her and have acceptance for her exceptionalities. However, as she begins to think about post-graduation plans, the security of having a service dog trained to alert others and aid her should she become injured is a great relief and helps her manage the resultant anxiety. A service dog would provide a great deal of daily assistance both physically and psychologically, and allow her the independence that most of us take for granted. Each donation she receives gets her one step closer to her goal. No amount is too small and we are so grateful for your love and support.

Goal #1 - $10,000 to secure Clio her puppy and begin training.
Goal #2 - $15,000 for the balance of fees due to Doggie Do Good for Clio's Service Dog

Here's more information  on the service dog we want to get for Clio.  Her application has been approved, all we need are the funds to proceed.
