The Backstory
In late 2018 Johanne was finally able to leave an abusive relationship, and moved into a room in Boston. A few months after moving in her landlord made a pass at her, which she refused.
Johanne’s landlord started retaliating against her— harassing her, and refusing to install basic safety features, such as smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
Her landlord is now claiming that the property is being sold, and is evicting Johanne on July 13th.
Joanne has been living with C-PTSD as a result of her abusive ex-partner, and has been working hard to heal and get her life back on track. This ordeal with her landlord has been intensely triggering, and has caused Johanne significant emotional and financial distress.
How You Can Help
Johanne was accepted into the Psych Mental Health Nurse Practioner program at Yale, and she is going into this field in order to work with other survivors of sexual assault and abuse. The program starts at the end of August. However, our first priority is to secure safe housing for Johanne and her beloved cat Mo, and we have less than ten days to do this.
We are raising funds to cover first and last month’s rent, moving costs, and to make up for lost wages. A number of interactions with her landlord caused Johanne so much distress that she became physically ill and had to leave work.
Johanne is a vivacious, funny, and empathetic person who is a fierce advocate for marginalized people, and who has a passion for creating true equity. Let’s help her get back on her feet!
