A run for Cambodia

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Gino Gombeaud, I am 23 years old and I am running the 2019 Gold Coast Marathon on the 7th of July to raise money for children in Poipet Cambodia!

So, I originally went to Poipet in August 2017 for my first mission trip with some members from New Life Church in Robina. I was able to go over there for 12 days.

New Life as a partnership with a couple over there named Perlito and Rose Gatmen, they are Philipino missionaries with 2 daughters, who went over 13 years ago to permanently support Cambodian children, and people with the hope to see lives radically changed.

In their endeavour, they planted the Bridge of Hope Learning Centre, which is situated right next to a slum.

Let me tell you about Poipet and my experience of it...

Poipet is a city at the border of Thailand, known as the armpit of Cambodia because of the chaotic lifestyle and very harsh living conditions. The people there are extremely poor, unhealthy and still suffering from the Khmer Rouge genocide. I saw countless children, some under the age of 5 sniffing glue (to get high) on the streets, it is not uncommon for them to become victims of human trafficking. A great number die or are suffering due to lack of medicine or doctors. Many people are hungry, living in slums.

What am I raising money for? I am raising money to support directly the children over there who, without some financial help cannot have an education.

The Bridge of Hope Learning Centre, through the child sponsor program, is able to support over a hundred children going to school each day.
Which provides them with the school fees, transport to and from the best private school in Poipet, and a meal every day. It also provides them with uniforms, backpacks, shoes, and school supplies.
After school, they spend their afternoons at the Bridge of Hope Learning Centre and get a Christian education, and learn how to speak/write English.

New Life members go on mission multiple times a year for building projects, educating the children/people, directly tend to the sick and much more.

I am, however, raising money just for the children. I will transfer it to New Life, who have a special discount rate with the bank, to transfer it to Cambodia. The money that you donate will go directly to Perlito and Rose who will spend it completely on the children.

THANK YOU so very much for your support and whatever you give.

Below is one of many stories of a girl changed by financial support.

Sochea was first sponsored in 2012, and ever since then, has wanted to become a teacher. During her last two years of high school, she volunteered as a teacher in the Bridge of Hope Learning Centre, helping to teach English and Christian education after school to the younger sponsored children. Sochea is now the first of our sponsored children to start studying at university and is nearing the end of her first year of a Bachelor of Education. Sochea has long been recognised for how responsible she is and her engagement in church. The positive role model and influence she is for the younger children in her community is so valued. She has been so fundamental to the sponsorship program and training the upcoming generation already. Now, she hopes to become a trained teacher in Cambodia and continue to break the cycle of poverty and transform young people's lives through the gift of education, as her own life has been.

This is a picture of Sochea.
