We lost our house in a flood and have been living in public housing for a while now. We have wanted to try and get another house but FEMA only gave us $2,100 for our possessions and nothing toward the actual house we lost though they claimed it was no longer livable. And to top it off we have had endless trouble to get any help or services for our son who is 5 years old and disabled. He is Autistic level 3 requiring substantial support with accompanying intellectual and language impairment, sensory profile, echolalia, intellectual disability unspecified severity, language disorder, and Gobal development delays in all four areas (OT, PT, Speech, and Standard Development). Which all leads to him not eating table food, not being potty trained, comprehensive problems, inability to communicate needs, and much more. We have tried in countless ways to get help with so many things for him all to no avail. Like his food which is pediasure with fiber and baby food. But the problem is that the pediasure is $12.99 a 6 pack and he goes through 16-18 a month. Yet his medical card won't help with it because hes not bad off enough to be tube feed. We also have struggled with the education system for 3 years trying to get service through them and get him used to the idea of being around other kids and having other (strangers) adults to watch and take care of him. After 3 years we finally got a halfway decent IEP for him only to have the teacher and 2 aids start ignoring it 3 days into him going. So for his and the other childrens safety we had to pull him out. Which to be honest was a little heartbreaking because he was really starting to enjoy it. But of course the B.O.E people seem to blame us for the problems. And there are no programs in the state we live in (WV) or through DHHR to help with special needs services. So we've had are backs against the wall for awhile now living in public housing and unable to get a place of our own again. So please help support our cause because our son is the one really suffering. And we'd really like to have a place to call home so we as a family have a place to go home to.
