In June of last year, Bobby and Nicki received the news they had been waiting and praying for, they were expecting their second child. However, throughout her pregnancy, Nicki started experiencing really elevated heart rates. Originally, the doctors assumed it was a symptom of pregnancy but it continued to get worse as time went on.

In October of 2018, Nicki was rushed to Oconomowoc’s ER because she had a life threatening heart rhythm. From there she was taken by Flight for Life to the Milwaukee Hospital so she could receive more specialized care. After a few hours the doctors were able to find a medication that gained control of her heart rate but then came the devastating news that Nicki has Heart Failure. Doctors assume Nicki had a silent heart attack at some point that severely damaged her heart. She was in and out of the hospital and put on bed rest until she reached 32 weeks pregnant, at which point Nicki had a C-section. On December 10th Violet Hope Arsiniega was born at 2 lbs 15oz. Violet spent her first two months in the NICU and is now home doing great.

Since Violet's birth, Nicki has been struggling to get better. Her body has not been responding to any of the medications and her heart has continued to weaken. On February 8th, Nicki was remitted to the hospital and was given news that her only option left is to have a heart transplant. She received her heart after over two months in the hospital!!

Nicki and Bobby could use  a lot of help during this difficult time. Myself, Tonya Butschke and Ashley Toth are dear friends of Nicki and Bobby. We know there are so many of us who love Nicki and Bobby and they are already blown away by the amount of help and kindness they have received over the past few months. For those who are still asking how to help, we created this Go Fund Me account. It will help tremendously with the never ending hospital bills and getting them back on their feet while Nicki is on her long road to recovery.  Many expenses include, but are not limited to, the hospital stay, different medications, the transplant itself, the road to recovery, daycare costs for Zoe and Violet and general housing costs. They are on one income right now and any contribution you can make will help lighten the burden of their load. The money contributed will go directly to Nicki and Bobby's bank account!

Thank you!

Nicki was discharged from the hospital this past Friday! It was a great weekend with her home. Bobby and the girls really enjoyed having her there. The weather was nice so she got to be outside and have sun on her face.

The benefit was also on Sunday. It was a great turn out and it raised a lot of money. The effort put into to setting it up, and the generosity of everyone was very overwhelming. They are just so grateful to have such an amazing family and friend support network and to be part of a great community. There aren’t enough “thank you’s” and are no words for how much it meant to them.

However, there is some bad news. Nicki is back in the hospital. This stay may be about a week and a half. Her strong immune system (antibodies) keep rebuilding. Some of these antibodies are the ones that are not compatible with her new heart. Thankfully, at this point there are still no signs of rejection. So, before it has a chance to become a problem, the plan is to do plasmapheresis again. They will have to do it 5 times within 10 days to flush out the antibodies. This will essentially erase the memory of the cells, so the antibodies stop reproducing.

Nicki has made some great strides in her mobility and strength in the few days she was at home. This will be the last update on GoFundMe. We are shutting down the campaign tomorrow morning. If you can, please consider donating one last time. Most importantly, please pray for Nicki to make a speedy and full recovery! Your donations have really helped alleviate some of the financial burden that Nicki and Bobby are facing. So thank you all with every ounce of our hearts!! God Bless!

Nicki has been moved from the ICU! She is now only hooked up to one IV. Her progression is beautiful. She is very excited to be another step closer to home, but also a little nervous. She’s been monitored 24/7 for the last 2.5 months.

She has been working with physical therapy to work on building some strength back. This includes more walks and weighted or banded exercises. Her daily focuses are rest, food and therapy.

The best-case scenario discharge is early to mid next week! They did start a new medication that needs a week to build in her system before they can let her go. She is making wonderful strides!!

As many of you know Nicki’s surgery was a success and without complications! Yesterday she had physical therapy and they worked with Nicki to have her sit up on side of bed and stand in place. By the time the night time nurses changed shifts, they were in disbelief that it wasn’t even 24 hours that she was transplanted, because she was moving and doing so much and doing so well!

They also did another round of plasmapheresis (keep all the antibodies in check). Nothing else to report there.

They are continue to bring down the levels of all the different IVs, and were even able to stop some of them!! Today, she will be getting ALL chest tubes out! (all of the upright sitting/standing time she did helped drain it all out).

They are working on a couple hurdles. She is still struggling to eat. So they tried giving a feeding tube yesterday, but they couldn’t get it into place. They are most likely trying again today.

As far as recovery time in the hospital goes, if she can stay strong and her systems stay good, they think 10-14 days she can go home.

Nicki and Bobby really wanted to emphasis the incredible treatment team and staff at Froedert. They are flooding in with words of congratulations, encouragement and happiness!! Even the ones that have never met them, but have heard her story, have been coming in and giving them praises! They have been nothing short of amazing and they will forever be in Nicki and Bobby’s hearts!!!!

Lastly, thank you ALL for your donations, prayers, words of encouragement and for sharing their story. This GoFundMe page will stay open while she’s in recovery. The amount of medical bills and day-to-day living expenses continue to pile up. If you can give ANY contribution, it’s GREATLY appreciated. Because of you all, they’re over $20k. Just WOW!!!!!! Thank you all so so much and please continue to pray for a quick recovery. Also, please pray for the donor’s family. They lost a loved one, but they kept our Nicki alive!!! God Bless!
