The statistic for death from infection and other causes resulting from this process is dramatic and haunting. How many years can a person live after kidney transplant? ....the average life expectancy for a patient on dialysis is generally five years. On the other hand, patients who receive a kidney transplant typically live longer than those who stay on dialysis. A living donor kidney functions, on average, 12 to 20 years, and a deceased donor kidney from 8 to 12 years. Though my insurance will pay many of the expenses of a transplant (surgery, testing), there are numerous costs that are not covered., particularly for the donor who will travel, to be in the hospital and in recovery, taking time away from work and family. The donor's daily living expenses, food, lost wages, housing, bills/mortgage payments etc. still need to be made. This is one of the reasons this GoFundMe has been established, to help defray the expenses of providing for the living donor who altruistically has come forward to give life to another person whom they most likely do not even know!
