A House for a Hero

Meet Leo Rodriguez and his sweet family: Miguelina (wife), Abish (daughter 6 years), Haiti (daughter 5 years old), with a baby boy on the way in December. He has been an outstanding HEFY Local Coordinator in the Dominican Republic and has for years created a wonderful program caring for the youth as if they were his own children. Two weeks ago an electrical plug in the Rodriguez home caught on fire, burning the entire home with all of the families possessions. Miraculously he and his family had left the home 20 minutes prior to the tragedy. When their neighbor called to inform them of what had happened, they were devastated at the loss, but their immediate reaction can be summarized in what Abish said to Haiti: “don’t cry, we just need to be grateful our family is safe.” They have friends and family voluntarily working on their house but it is expensive. Without them knowing, we have learned it costs approximately $20,000 USD to rebuild their home.

This family has incredible dedication to each other, their community, and God. They would never ask for more help. Let’s give a life changing gift to them!

Andy and Becca know Leo and his family through their work at HEFY and through having visited them in the Dominican Republic in early November 2019. It was during that visit that they ascertained the family's needs and started this campaign. All funds will be collected by Andy and Becca and then sent via wire transfer directly to Leo's account. Andy and Becca are in continual contact with Leo to ensure the funds are received and used properly to purchase building materials and pay labor.
