A Great Loss for Pomona, Ca

$18,620 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 289 people in 7 months
Created July 4, 2017
Our community suffered a tragic loss on July 3, 2017, with the passing of a local Pomona, CA small business owner, Dwain Kaiser. Dwain owned Magic Door bookstore with his wife, JoAnn.

Dwain was fatally shot in his home. We are unable to go into detail about the shooting due to the nature of the crime and the suspected involvement of a minor. We are devastated over the loss of Dwain and the effects this loss will have on many lives.

We are raising money to help his wife, JoAnn Kaiser, who is in her 80s and lives well below the poverty level. Dwain and JoAnn owned one of the last used bookstores in Pomona, not because they made a enough money to live on, but because they loved educating our community. More importantly, they loved BOOKS. JoAnn is unable to cover the overwhelming expenses she will incur during this time of great loss: personal living expenses, moving costs, and paying store bills.

We reach out to all of you for support. Any assistance you can provide will impact JoAnn's ability to grieve the loss of her best friend and husband without the burden of wondering how she is going to survive financially.

All proceeds will go toward JoAnn's living expenses, store bills, and moving costs.

I just wanted to post a little note:

JoAnn wants to thank all of you for your loving support during this time of sorrow and change. With your donations JoAnn has been able to get an apartment, pay store bills and have some sort of a financial safety net.

JoAnn is keeping the bookstore open for now and would love to see those of you who can stop by!

I am personally grateful for your compassion and love. Thank you. ❤️

Thank you for all your support thus far my friends. I have spoken with JoAnn, she was so thankful and humbled by how we are pulling together and caring for her during this time of great sorrow.

We have reached our goal of $10,000 and hope you will continue to spread the word and this gofundme campaign. The more we share this campaign via social media, email, text, or word of mouth, helps ensure the success of this much needed fundraiser. Everyone has been so kind and giving, JoAnn is grateful and feels loved.

I personally appreciate all of your help and am proud to call of you my community members.

This gofundme campaign has made it into the Daily Bulletin
