A future for Karla

Hello everybody, my name is Karla Salgado, I am a first-year university student, currently enrolled in an International Development program, at Trent University in Peterborough.
I have a dream to one day help those in need, but in order for me to achieve my dream, I have had to leave my family in Mexico behind and adventure to Canada in search for a better education and greater opportunities. Though my family supports me from Mexico, it is not nearly sufficient (in part due to high exchange rate and low wages) to cover all the costs of school, basic needs, and once a year travels back home altogether.
I would like to add that personally, it is not easy to ask for help or even to start a go-fund me page especially when you have been struggling economically silently for a very long time. This has been extremely difficult for my family and me, as well as the main cause of stress and preoccupation.
Academic life and why is education important to me?
I arrived to Ontario in September 2015 at the age of 15, with the goal to finish high school (grade 11 and 12) receive a diploma and subsequently attend a university in Ontario as well. I graduated high school this past July, achieving honors and the title of being an Ontario Scholar, as well as a couple of scholarships that enabled me to pay for the first bit of this year's tuition.
My education means everything and I have worked very hard in my academic life to achieve the best grades as well as balancing my social life by being part of various extracurricular activities (e.g. Drama club, Soccer team, School choir, etc).
I also have a younger sibling and two very hardworking parents who look up to me and to whom I owe everything I am today, hence I am trying to create a better life by taking advantage of all the opportunities that are given to me.
I want to make my family proud, show them that all the hard work, efforts, and stresses were worth it. I have worked really hard to get this far and I will continue to fight as giving up has never been an option for me.
