A Dream to Publish

Donation protected
Ever since I was a little girl, I would spend most my time dreaming up characters and the fantastic worlds in which they lived in.  Whether it was drawing up a blue dog saving the world from a devilish cat, writing up fanfics, sending Otto and friends through colorful adventures or exploring the night with vampires, I was always nose deep in a notebook, pen scribbling away at the pages. I had big dreams of becoming the next bestselling author, popular enough to inspire any sort of film adaptation. I never realized the one thing that would always stand in the way of my goals was not skill, or dedication, but costs. Nothing in the world could be more discouraging than to realize you can't AFFORD your dreams.
I was a teenager when I learned that publishing wasn't cheap. If you were lucky, a publisher would pick you up, even luckier if it was a big name publisher. Otherwise authors default to self publishing, which seems to be picking up speed in the industry. No matter what routes you take, production and even sales require spending a major chunk of change. Best case scenario, an agent will fall in love with my work and pitch it to a publisher, I make at least the amount of the sign-on bonus, and if I am fortunate, sell enough to generate royalty (this is actually more rare than you would think). The other scenario is the overly expensive self-publishing, a route I would like to take if all else fails.
So what do my costs consist of? First and foremost ADVERTISING. No matter what decision I make, traditional or self publishing, if I really want to get my name out there its going to take A LOT of advertising, which is probably the most expensive, yet necessary expenses. With good advertising even fanfiction smut can make it onto the bestsellers list. Even going the traditional route, many publishers will require an investment for things like table spots, store displays, and  merchandise. Secondly is EDITING. Editors are not an option when it comes to publishing. We can edit our own work all day, but having a skilled, trained, eye do their magic is more important than most would assume. Editors for an entire book can cost thousands, I was quoted at three-grand.
If I decide to go the Self-Publishing route there are costs like book cover artists, or subscriptions to websites like book brush. There's also editors, barcode purchasing, copyright costs, MORE advertising, printing costs, listing costs, and so many other unforeseen expenses since I have only skimmed the top of the list of self-publishing.
It may also be no mystery to those who follow me on my social media outlets: https://www.instagram.com/roxannaprinceauthor/

that I'm in desperate need of a new, more capable, laptop.

So as of right now, to my donators who leave their names, I intend on rearranging  your name to create towns and cities in the world I'm building.

These are difficult times all around, to those who can't afford to donate, I ask that you click the share button. Even getting the word out means EVERYTHING to me.
Thankyou so much for you time and donation! Thankyou for believing in me.
