A Better Ending for Fry

Donation protected
Our beloved 7-year old husky mix, Fry, has been diagnosed with an osteosarcoma - an immensely painful and terminal form of bone cancer. Generally with this type of cancer, by the time a tumor is found it has already spread around the body, and is nearly impossible to eliminate. The tumor is in his front left leg, and the recommendation I’ve gotten from every veterinarian is to amputate his leg to get rid of the source of pain. Currently he limps and can’t walk further than a block; if he were to have the amputation and recovery (between 1 and 2 weeks) he would be able to run, jump, and even return to the dog park! I know I have to let him go eventually, but my ultimate goal is to give him a happy, pain-free ending to his wonderful life.

With that in mind, I brought Fry in for surgery on June 18th. Unfortunately, he had a reaction to the anaesthesia, and they had to wake him up without performing the surgery. The vets have assured me that we can try again with an anaesthesiologist on board, which I hoped to do. However, between veterinary fees, x-rays, ultrasounds, blood tests, and his overnight stay at the vet after the failed surgery, I’ve run out of funds to help him any more. I’m a new grad with a large student loan and cannot afford to attempt the surgery a second time, which breaks my heart. My desire to give Fry a painless end-of-life were riding on this surgery being successful, and now I can’t do it alone.

The surgery will cost between $3,820 and $4,605 depending on medication needs and the length of his hospital stay. This surgery will not extend his life, but it will make him much happier and will ease the emotional burden on those who love him. The vet has also offered us the option to do chemotherapy for $2,870, which could extend his lifespan by up to 2 years with no negative impact to his quality of life!

I’m asking for your help to give Fry both of these
treatments. If we can raise $5,000 we will go through with the amputation (Fry will need to undergo tests before and after surgery which are not included in the quote). A full $7,900 will let us give him the best treatment possible. For full transparency, the quotes from the veterinary hospital are posted below, and I will add any other invoices here as updates.

If we manage to fundraise enough money for the surgery, I’ll post regular updates to let you all know how Fry is doing and whether it was a success.

With your help, Fry will be able to once more chase his friends around the dog park, howl longingly at raccoons on our morning walks, and he may even live long enough to play in the snow one last time. He’s a happy, energetic boy and I just know he will do great on three legs!

Please help by donating or sharing this campaign: Fry and I will be forever grateful if you do.
