Funding to Build a Wooden Canoe

Donation protected
Hello fello Americans,

My name is Harrison Sopp, I'm 19 years old, and I just finished my first year of college. I'm on track towards a four year forestry degree and am an avid outdoorsman.

Canoeing is a passion of mine but buying a one man canoe is way out of my price range.  I enjoy working with my hands and building what I need so I did some research and learned about stitch and glue boat building. It is less expensive than buying a factory canoe and means more to the user since it is built by their hands.

This type of boat construction involves cutting out pieces of marine grade plywood, drilling small holes every couple inches along the edges, and stitching the pieces together with wire. That creates the boat's shape but it isn't worthy of the water just yet. The next steps include glueing together all the pieces, takingout the wire, and covering the inside and outside of the boat with fiberglass to make it waterproof. This is a great, simple way to create your own water craft from scratch.

The money I am asking for will enable me to buy the materials such as marine grade plywood, wire, glue, fiberglass, polyester, paint, and clamps in order to build this boat. If I have any extra money after finishing the canoe, I will donate the remaining proceeds to my college's marathon canoe racing team, which I am a proud member of.

I would really appreciate any donation because everything helps. It would really be incredible if I could be able to paddle in a canoe that I made from scratch with the help of generous people along the way.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Enjoy your day.
