Woodmont Wildcats SETC Trip to KY

Donation protected
Harry Culpepper, Jr. , the new drama teacher at Woodmont High School is proud to share that the theatre group has achieved some remarkable things so far this year at Woodmont.  His students have won 1st place in the SC Theatre Association High School Festival – a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in high school theatre!  They now have the privilege to represent South Carolina in the Southeastern Theatre Conference High School Festival March 1-5, 2017 in Lexington, Kentucky, where they will be competing against 9 other states.

The unique, one-act version of The Taste of Sunrise tells the story of a deaf boy named Tuc who grows up in a hearing world at the turn of the century and how he overcomes obstacle after obstacle on a journey of self-discovery and learning American Sign Language.  It is truly a one of a kind production that is performed in American Sign Language and Spoken word and the first of its kind to ever win the state competition.

The cost to take the students to SETC in Kentucky is a little over $30,000, which includes registration, hotel accommodations, travel, meals and production expenses.  We are now beginning our fundraising campaign to support these kids in this amazing opportunity.  One of the ways is by using this site.

The theatre department receives no money from the school.  The budget is zero.  Everything they spend must be raised by the theatre guild.  These students, many of which receive free or reduced lunch, simply cannot afford to go.

A breakdown of the cost for 30 kids:
Registration costs - $6800
Charter Bus - $4000
Meals - $5000
Hotel - $18000

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Wildcat Theatre Guild (501(c)3 Organization) so that they can take  their state championship team to the next level.  South Carolina has never won top honors in the SETC High School Festival in the history of its existence, and we believe they have a chance at being the first with this deeply moving and inspiring production.  Your sponsorship can help make their participation possible.

The SETC Festival also offers opportunities for the kids to  win scholarships.   One of the students in the cast won a $1000 scholarship from this past state festival.

Thank you for supporting our efforts in representing South Carolina on the regional level and for helping give these students an educational experience they will never forget.

Sincerly,
Woodmont High School Wildcat players and staff
