Send Warsan to Grad School in UK

Greetings friends, family and peers:

My name is Warsan Mohamoud and I'm a 26 year old Somali-American residing in San Diego, California. I received my undergraduate degree from San Diego State University and currently work under the Department of Financial Oppurtunity for International Rescue Committee. I work alongside an interdisciplinary team to provide refugees access to a range of resources that accelerates economic mobility. Being the product of African refugee parents, my personal and professional interests have always been aligned with development and relief efforts. In fact, my motivation to work in the devleopment sector intensified once I began researching the most problematic refugee locations in the world, Dadaab. The extreme living conditions of Dadaab, and confliction of the 2013 tripartite agreement between Kenya, Somalia and UNHCR has propeled me to transition from macro work to global issues.

Although I'm passionate about serving vulnerable communities locally, I'm aware that I must continue my education in order to uplift a larger demographic. As a result, I applied to different international post-graduate programs and I have accepted the oppourtunity to study at the the University of London, Goldsmiths (MA, Development & Rights). It has been a long awaited interest of mine to study in the UK, due to its progressive courses which focus on relevant international issues. As one of UK’s leading arts and humanities universities, Goldsmiths provides a unique intellectual and practical environment in which to study development and rights. The program spans from September 2017 to Septmeber 2018 and the tuition fee is approximately 20,000 USD for international students. Currently, I've allocated only 35% of the tutition fees and I have multiple scholarship applications pending. With that being said, I am humbly coming forward and seeking a total of 5,000 USD that would go towards my tution fees. All proceeds will be forwarded to my bank account, which will then be sent to Goldsmiths by October 2017.

As a member of different marginalized communities, I find that education is necessary in combating social, political and economic injustice. Therefore, a post-graduate degree from Goldsmiths will allow me to rethink concepts, policies and practices which attempt to engage with global inequality. My post academic plans consists of establishing a development-consulting firm in East Africa that delivers asset building programs.

Having said that, thank you so much for your kindness and love! Any donation is truly a blessing and will bring me one step closer to furthering my education.
In the words of Allah (SWT) "And whatever you spend of good – it will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.'' [Quran 2: 272]

Thank you again!
