Wanda is the sweetest dog. She is spunky and easy-going, and she gets along with just about everyone she meets. She’s had a rough history, but you’d never know it from her cheerful persona.
We pulled Wanda from a high-kill shelter in Los Angeles. She had a nasty ear infection, trouble walking, and patchy skin. We suspect that she was kept in a wire crate her whole life, except to be bred and pump out puppies, over and over and over again. When she first arrived at MLBR, she struggled to walk, since her muscles were underdeveloped. She sometimes stumbled and face planted, busting up her chin and making her paws bleed.
But with steady affection and a decent diet, Wanda has improved dramatically. She prances around on her daily walks, with booties to protect her paws in case she stumbles. She has made many neighborhood friends, dogs and people alike, and loves galloping through the grass at the park. She’ll even chase her nub-tail and play tag with you if you get her really riled up. She is an ideal snuggler, though, and would do anything to sit on your lap. She is pretty vocal, but rarely barks. She makes contented grunts and when she sleeps she… er… purrs. Wanda has a bit of a grumpy face, but don’t let her fool ya; her wiggly butt will tell you how she really feels. And when she pants, she has the biggest, goofiest smile. This dog is an absolute dreamboat. She is going to make someone very, very happy.
But there’s one thing standing between Wanda and the rest of her happily ever after. Wanda needs to be spayed, and two pesky masses in her mammary gland need to be removed. But because of her complicated history, this is a high-risk procedure, and it could get pricey. We are anticipating this surgery will be $1,200 or more, depending on what the vet finds during the procedure. We’re committed to Wanda, and impressed with her progress.
