WAIAKEA INTERMEDIATE ROBOTICS

We are a middle school VEX Robotics team from Waiakea Intermediate School proud to be representing Hilo, Hawaii in competitions around the state and country.

Our school's robotics program consists of two teams that compete in different divisions.  The younger members compete in the VEX IQ division which uses mostly plastic components and the older members compete in the VEX EDR division which primarily uses metal components.

Waiakea's VEX EDR Team recently won the state tournament title at the 2017 Hawaii State VEX EDR Robotics Competition held on Oahu this past January.  The team is trying to raise funds in hopes of an invitation to the VEX Worlds 2017 Robotics Competition being held in Kentucky this coming April.  They hope to raise funds for equipment, materials and travel needs.

Waiakea's VEX IQ Team just qualified to travel and compete in the Hawaii State VEX IQ Robotics Competition being held on Oahu and hopes to raise funds for travel expenses, equipment and materials.

The members of our VEX IQ team are Elijah Oliver, Daycen Letie, Alyxander Wakano, Casen Ishihara, Reyn Funai, Alex Ogawa, Yusuf Tamimi and Jonah Furuli. Pictured with them is one of the advisors, Jon Kitagwa.

*Both robotics teams are lead by advisors:
Alec Richardson, Jon Kitagawa and Gayle Kamei who provide excellent guidance and leadership while teaching the kids not only technical skills but also teamwork, sportsmanship and creativity.
