Two weeks ago my 11 year old nephew Vyrl Ryan Bowen started getting intense headaches and sleeping more than normal. Out of precaution his parents took him in for a CT scan only to discover the worst. Vyrl has a 4 centimeter tumor in his brain that is currently causing pressure and impairing his motor ability and vision. The doctors decided that he needed immediate surgery with a high likelihood for aggressive chemo and radiation therapy to follow.
The doctors are not sure of the type of tumor yet, but as of 11 am this morning he will be in surgery to extract as much of the tumor as possible. The oncologist has said that the next steps after surgery may necessitate further treatment out of state.
As of now, there is no good estimation for how much this will cost, but the flights alone could be in the thousands. Vyrl is a red-headed, freckled, happy go lucky kid. He is always smiling and kind, even through this whole ordeal.
