Repair home post Houston Flood
Our little town home in Houston was flash flooded early morning on August 27, 2017 due to Hurricane Harvey.
It had rained heavily for days and the bayous and reservoirs had filled up. Due to the torrential rain and the storm system hovering over Houston for several days, our home (like so many others in Houston) not only got water penetration from the ground up but also from the brick walls, roof and windows. As the water kept rising on the first floor, we tried to move essentials such as some dry food and water upstairs in the hope of riding out the flood, rain and the storm, since there was no way to leave or not much hope for outside help during the crisis.
After a couple of days of scary moments where the water levels seemingly would not go down, the rain finally decreased in intensity and we survived and did not have to leave or be rescued. Here is a small example of the magnitude of the event in Houston and how the support systems were maxed out. I called 911 for help and was put on hold for more than ten minutes. They asked me to move to the second floor and call only if there was an immediate life threatening emergency and if I was in waist deep water. After the water levels went down and the flood receded, it has just been a scramble to get drying fans, dehumidifiers, mold spray, garbage bags, drywall cutters and so on to dry and disinfect the interior.
I am so grateful for the outpouring of prayers and wishes from my friends, family and our Livenation family. Though it is not in my nature to ask for help, especially when so many less fortunate homes are still under water, I have setup this fundraising campaign at the urging of friends and colleagues who wished to contribute toward helping me repair and restore my home to where my family can continue to celebrate life as we did before the hurricane.
It may take several weeks or months to rebuild and get back to normal. I am doing my little bit in helping neighbors and friends rebuild their lives and volunteering whenever I can. I am grateful to all whose thoughts and prayers have saved thousands of families like mine. Special thanks to all the volunteers and organizations that came from Houston and all over the country to help in our hour of need.
