Umbrella Cover Museum Storms the UK

Celebrate the Mundane! is the motto of the world’s only Umbrella Cover Museum. I am Nancy 3. Hoffman, Director and Curator of this unique and quirky museum of umbrella sleeves. It is housed in a little room on Peaks Island in the State of Maine, USA. I have had this collection for over 20 years, and it has grown tremendously as people have sent me umbrella covers from 65 different countries to date. Each umbrella cover has its own story - which makes each unique and interesting, just like people!

My collection also holds the Guinness World Record for the most umbrella covers - 730 umbrella covers counted in July of 2012. Mission Statement: The Umbrella Cover Museum is dedicated to the appreciation of the mundane in everyday life. It is about finding wonder and beauty in the simplest of things, and about knowing that there is always a story behind the cover.

It has been my goal for about ten years to take the traveling exhibit of the museum to the British Isles. Where else would it be understood and appreciated more than in the UK: home of Monty Python, a place of almost continuous rain, and home to millions of brolly users? And now after Brexit, they really need cheering up.

Help The Umbrella Cover Museum to take England by storm!!!

After a reconnaissance trip in 2016, I found Centrespace Gallery in Bristol, 6 Leonard Lane, to be the best location to host the first exhibition, from September 15 - September 27, 2017. Funds will cover airline flight to and from the UK, supplies to prepare and mount exhibit, gallery rental, payment to personnel (including volunteer expenses) for help in Bristol, lodging, on the ground transportation, and consultant fees.

Thanks to the museum's Board of Trustees for supporting this effort. And many thanks to Mark Micheli for creating and producing the fabulous video for this campaign! www.MarkMicheli.com.

Anything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Dear donors to my GoFundMe Campaign - here is my final post and wrap up of the Umbrella Cover Museum's trip to England, which you all made possible! Below is the video link to some interviews and short films made about the trip. Be sure to click on the tab that says "videos" after you get to my Youtube page.

Overall it was an unprecedented success. People were raining praise on the exhibit, and were grateful for the experience.

With this campaign, private donations, and contributions made at the museum in Maine and in Bristol, We made our goal of $5,500. It is extremely gratifying to know that so many people appreciate what The Umbrella Cover Museum means and does.

At this time of Thanksgiving, I am grateful for all of you, for being able to share my passion with the world, and for the little things in life that can bring us joy.

Dear Donors to the Umbrella Cover Museum campaign - I just wanted to send you a few pictures from the exhibit in the UK. I had a lot of help to create it and to send me on my way! Bristolians are loving the exhibit, and are in strong agreement with our mission statement of celebrating the mundane. More of them use their covers than in the US - that was to be expected. The new theme song is posted on Facebook if you want to hear it. Press is coming out tomorrow in the national paper the "Daily Express" in William Hartston's column "The Beachcomber." Don't forget to let your Southwestern British friends know that they should come see the exhibit by September 27th. Thanks again for your support! That covers it! Nancy 3. Hoffman
