Tenee's UN Women's Trek for Rights

After being inspired by a recent International Women’s Day celebration I attended here in Canberra, I have decided to join the UN Women’s Trek for Rights 2018, through Nepal, to raise vital funds for UN Women. Funds will be used to empower and support women and girls in Nepalese communities, and promote gender equality, particularly as they continue to rebuild, following the 2015 earthquakes.

The minimum fundraising target is $3,500 to support this vital work. However, I like to exceed expectations so I have set a $5,000 goal.

I will be self-funding the travel and accommodation component, but I need YOUR HELP to raise funds to "...ensure that all women and girls, no matter where they live, have opportunity, equal access to education, fair and decent employment, live free from the fear of violence and are empowered within their communities" (UN Women National Committee Australia). 

The trip begins in Kathmandu on 2 April 2018, and I’ll trek through the Annapurna region between some of the highest mountains in the world; Annapurnas, Machapuchare, and Dhauligiri, meeting many women along the way and sharing stories and experiences.

I will also volunteer at one of the UN Women’s Multi-Purpose Centres, which have been set up for women and children who survived the earthquakes; this is why it is so important to raise funds for the UN Women National Committee Australia.
