What High Adventure Is About and Why We Do It
BSA Troop 420, located in Bothell, WA, has been a staple in the scouting community throughout its 70 year history. Over that time, the scouts of 420 kept closely-guarded traditions that have not only shaped the history of the troop, but also the lives of every scout who has passed through. One of our most cherished traditions is high adventure, an annual, rigorous journey that tests scouts mentally and physically, while requiring paramount teamwork. It also includes 10 hours of community service. In previous years, our high adventure patrol has gone on numerous challenging adventures. In 2015, we went to to Desolation Sound in Canada for a 50 mile kayaking trip. Last year, we trekked 30 miles in the Sawtooth Mountains in Idaho, and concluded the trip with 25 miles of exciting kayaking in the San Juan Islands. Still, we have never ventured past kayaking or backpacking. This year, everything will be different. This year, we get exotic. This year, for the first time in the troop’s history, we will be embarking on a biking trip.
Where Your Money is Going
This year, six scouts will travel to Hawaii for a 260 mile biking and camping expedition over a period of six days. Your donations will help us fund airfare, camping site costs, food, and bike rentals. For many of the scouts, this will be their final High Adventure trip.
What You Get Out Of It
Those who donate $15 or more will be sent a ticket via email for our silent auction and dinner on Saturday, July 8, from 6-9 pm. The dinner's menu will include a salad, spaghetti, and ice cream for desert. We will be auctioning off plenty of high quality gear for all of your outdoor activities. Additionally, we will be offering exclusive items such as a guided kayaking trip led by the scouts of Troop 420.
