Help Tom build anti-ALS Chevelle

Donation protected
Tom came to Back Bay Customs looking for a skilled shop to complete the bodywork and paint on his 1970 Chevy Chevelle. We are a high-end custom car shop located in Portland, Maine. We do custom metalwork and amazing paint so this is right up our alley.

Tom had disassembled his Chevelle 25 years ago and then life happened, family, house, kids...

More recently Tom has been diagnosed with ALS. At the core he is a true craftsman so having his carefully honed motor skills erode is becoming extremely frustrating. He wants to finally finish this Chevelle and be able to enjoy hearing it run and sharing the experience with his family. Tom and his son have started rebuilding the engine and transmission at home, something he can do from his wheelchair. He is teaching his son about the process as they clean and prepare each part.

We have started to repair the body for him and it's clear that he won't have the budget to complete his dream.
We had the body sand blasted and found some areas of rust. The frame and suspension need work and many of the panels like the fenders and hood need to be replaced. The interior has also been eaten by mice and needs to be replaced.

This is where Back Bay Customs and your generous donations come in! We can't wait to give him his beautiful, metallic blue Chevelle with white strips and see his big smile. The guys at the shop are already donating time and parts to keep this going but we really need your help to buy all the materials and labor for the paintjob and frame restoration.

We just uncovered the car in this picture. That's Tom in the blue shirt.
Lots of dust and dirt from the years of storage, but it's a good start. Here we're taking the doors off and getting it ready to be sand blasted. The metal needs to be clean and rust-free for us to put a nice paintjob on it.

Here it is getting blasted, starting in the front and working back.

We moved it into our paint booth to apply a protective epoxy primer so the metal stays rust free while we work on repairing the damaged sections and fitting new panels.  Once we get the metal repairied and some of the sanding done, we won't have enough funds to keep Toms project going.

Update 8-18-16

Performance Product Painting inc. and Paul G White donated resources, money and time to get the frame and all the supension pieces powdercoated so we have a nice platform to put the restored body on.
We we then able to assemble the frame and suspension with the newely coated parts.
Our local CarQuest store donated chip-guard for the bottom of the body and we got that sprayed on today. Almost time to put the body on the frame and line everything up!
