Campaign details:
Somalia and the entire East African coast is experiencing extreme drought. The need is enormous and the situation is dire. Therefore, we went as a team to Somalia to document and report back the situation. This was by no means a simple, fun, vacation type trip, but a charitable one. On this trip, we had the privilege to travel together as a team, Saciido Shaie and her two great friends, Councilman Simon Trautman and Ethan Miller.
"It was refreshing to see some cultural resemblance to what I recall as a child before the civil war but, it was also heartbreaking to witness Somalia in its current state," said Saciido Shaie.

Some of the areas we visited were the Banadir, Galmudug, and Puntland regions. From there on, we went to several IDP camps in some of the areas in these regions. Each camp had over hundreds of displaced families with unmet needs. For example, there were no schools, hospitals, available water sources, and proper sheltering for the displaced families. Due to unsteady water sources, because of the current drought in Somalia, there has also been a significant decrease in the number of livestock.

"It was traumatizing and heart breaking for me and both my friends to witness such an ominous situation. We witnessed many children struck with the cholera outbreaks, remaining livestock fighting over a piece of cloth as a source of food, and not seeing a single indication that there’s vegetation in sight, etc..." said saciido shaie. The worst part about this situation was the limited resources and the absence of the international communities' much needed help.

The situation:
• 6.2 MILLION people in SOMALIA are predicted to be FOOD INSECURE by summer
• 70% of their livestock (camels, goats & cows which are the lifeblood of their survival and economy) are dead.
• Many people now are DYING because of MALNUTRITION and diseases like CHOLERA.
• No Hospitals in remote areas
• City Hospitals are struggling to save lives due to limited access or lack of a medical supplies or equipment.

Summary of the situation:

A quick short video clip: Team Somalia's Visit to Somalia to document the Somalian Famine and to show cased the magnitude and the severity of the drought.
