Theo's Journey, love of a Golden

$2,980 of $6,000 goal

As some of you know, I have been tube feeding Theo, a pup from a current litter since June 11th. He was born just 9 ounces with a will to live. Theo was not only small, he was born with a cleft palate. I spoke with several vets, breeders and anyone else that was willing to chat. Most of them said I should have Theo put down, as it was costly, time consuming and most likely I was headed for heart ache. It has been scary a few times. Theo has been into the emergency vet twice, on oxygen for 12+ hours and at one point I actually considered letting him go. My goal is to give him all I can but not at the expense of his suffering. Well, I am a bit stubborn and feel that each puppy produced by my dogs is worth every moment that I have to give to them. I have been feeding him every 2 to 3 hours this entire time. I have finally been able to go back to sleeping in my own bed, as of last Friday and Theo is sleeping through the night without additional feedings. Theo is now 3 lbs, 2 oz. and beginning to eat solid foods. He is vigorous, healthy and stealing my heart!!
I intend on having the cleft palate surgically repaired and have had the specialist give me an estimate of more than 6,000.00 dollars. Many people have told me that from a financial and business aspect, it makes no sense to do this. Again, i am stubborn and don't need it to make sense. From an emotional aspect, it doesn't make sense not to. My hope is to work with Theo and be certified as a therapy dog team and visit hospitals with children going in for surgery to share our story give snuggles and show them how Theo came through his surgery. I have now decided that i will be starting a GoFundMe page for Theo and his surgery. I am already about 2000.00 in on vet bills and don't want to give up on him!! We are hoping to have the surgery by the time he is 4 months old. He is now just over 1 month and growing every day. Our prayers are that he will be strong enough to have the surgery earlier than 4 months. Please help to support Theo on his journey to give back to our community and show just how much love he has to give.

So, I spoke with Theo's surgeon today and it looks like a go for September 19th. I am told that it will take about 4 hours, he will be given an esophageal feeding tube and unable to chew on anything for 2 weeks, not even his toys. He will also not be allowed to play with any of his puppy friends. We are glad that he is thriving and has made it to this point but I am emotionally overwhelmed. After spending countless hours feeding, nurturing, loving and training him, I am terrified that something will go wrong. It is crunch time now and we are still close to $4000.00 short to cover his bill. To all of our amazing supporters, If you can contribute at all at this point, we would be so appreciative and blessed.

Hi everyone just a quick update on Theo. He is now over 12 weeks old and more than 13 lbs. Theo is completely crate trained, learning basic commands and walking on a leash. Theo is getting to be well known in our little town, as he frequently goes to the coffee shop, the bank and the hardware store with me. Although we are excited for his surgery, we are also a bit nervous. With the help of our supporters we have earned more than $2,000 towards the $6,000 surgery. We're still hoping to continue to raise money for Theo's surgery. Theo's surgery is scheduled for September 19th and we are hoping to reach our goal so we don't have to postpone. Thank you everyone for your continued support in Theo's Journey. Check out our Facebook page for some new videos of the little guy.

Theo had his check up last week with the specialist. We are scheduled for surgery to repair the hard palate on September 19th, as long as he continues to do well. She has now decided, we will most likely being doing 2 separate surgeries to correct the hard/soft palates individually.
