THE REAPER - Graphic Novel Issue #1

THE REAPER is the classic tale of vampire vs. slayer finally told from the vampire’s perspective, painting the legendary hunter as a bigoted sociopath who stalks and murders vampires purely out of hatred and irrational fear.

Our story follows a group of mischievous young "fang-headz" as they are picked off one by one by the Reaper forcing the remaining vampires to make a stand.

Hi, I’m Brandon Peyton, writer, and creator of THE REAPER, which will be a ten issue graphic novel. I’ve been consuming vampire stories my entire life (some favorites include Monster Squad, Lost Boys, Buffy, Angel, Anita Blake and of course Blade), but I have never seen a vampire story starring unapologetically Black characters despite how similar the Black experience is to vampire legends.

I mean if I told you that one of these groups has been dehumanized by a centuries-old (and modern-media-reinforced) narrative that was constructed to paint said group as morally-bankrupt and highly dangerous savages who lack self-control over their most primal urges, thus making it socially acceptable for vigilante “heroes” to execute them on sight… which group would you say I was talking about? Vampires or Black people?

Exactly.

So I've created a brand new vampire lore with THE REAPER meant to clean up some of the "misinformation" and "propaganda" that's been spread about vampirekind over the years.

But every journey begins with a single step and THE REAPER's first step is getting Issue #1 aka “the preview issue” completed. That’s what this GoFundMe campaign is all about. I need your help to employ the extremely talented Bernadinus Gita Kusuma (who has produced all of the beautiful artwork you see here) to illustrate the remaining pages.

Up until this point, I have been paying Bernard with personal funds that have finally run out. But with your contributions, we can finish issue #1 at which point all contributors of $10 or more will receive an advanced PDF copy of THE REAPER Issue #1 with an acknowledgment published in the back.

Issue #1 is a 30-page story that introduces you to the mythology of THE REAPER and shows you how the bigoted vampire hunter came to be.

And it all starts somewhere in America in 1786:
