Let's Overcome & Beat Lyme Disease

Perhaps gifting and greatness are proportionate to the corresponding odds of affliction? Famous 19th century British actor Max Beerbohm is quoted as saying, “I have known no man of genius who had not to pay, in some affliction or defect either physical or spiritual, for what the gods had given him”.

Rachelle Lahelao’nalani has been richly blessed, and she has devoutly shared the attributes of her beautiful soul with countless people since her teenage years. Born and raised in Hawai’i, she lives by and shares the Aloha of pure and unconditional love. Giving, understanding and acceptance, have always been the hallmarks of her existence.

Be it spiritual insights and advice, to locating and treating physical ailments, to even probing and explaining the darkness in a patient’s troubled past, Lahela has always touched and encouraged anybody who sought her treatment. Those abilities extended into the challenging realm of professional sport where she was a sought-after masseuse and mentor on the pro’ surfing circuit for 15 years.

Destiny is indeed unfathomable, but after undeterminable and intermittent assaults on her personal health over the past 20 years, it seems the root cause of those considerable attacks has been Lyme disease. Lahela was recently diagnosed with the torrid tribulation, an extremely aggressive bacterium-based infection that attacks the joints, heart, and nervous system. Typical symptoms include fever, sanity destroying headaches, radical seizures, endless fatigue and body strain that extends to every joint and sinew.

She is stoutly bearing the shocking symptoms of her affliction, but with the accompanying inability to work, Lahela is unable to cope with the crippling costs of treatment for a disease that is not recognised by the Australian government, and therefore is bereft of Medicare support. After a lifetime of giving so much, she now needs to ask for your prayers and, if possible, your generosity.

In the native Hawaiian tongue, the suffix to Lahela’s bestowed cultural name, “onalani”  translates to ‘…open to the heavens’. No truer words have ever been spoken over her. She is indeed – but by necessity, she is now also open to your kindness and support. Mahalo!

“I need help!”

These were three simple words my beautiful friend
Rachelle found so difficult to say yesterday…

Why is it so hard to ask for the support we need
when we need it most?

Rachelle is a meditation teacher, the most magnificent
masseuse and a healer who has contracted Lyme disease.

In the space of a few weeks, she has lost control of her motor functions, is having 10-20 seizures a day and can no longer speak a complete sentence.

Lyme disease isn’t recognised in Australia - so as a Mum of two, with an awesome partner Simon (who is now unable to leave her side for the fear she will hurt herself) they need help and they’re a little desperate right now.

Once she gains some strength back or the seizures slow down, the Goal is to get her to Germany for treatment… until then, they need two types of help;
Firstly, they need love.
Then… they need money.

Nuff said.

If you can only afford the love… then that is simply beautiful, thank you. If you can afford to give some cash… a dollar, or ten (or a thousand), will help in a myriad of ways.

Thank you for listening. Have a magical Christmas/holiday/break?!

And most importantly… love it all, cos it’s so fragile and so precious…

All our love

"Mother. Healer. Goddess. Hula practitioner. Writer. Fighter. Lover. These are a few words that define Rachelle. Lymes. This is a new word that doesn't define her, but is now apart of her. Rachelle began having excruciating head pain. She saw her Doctor who took tests and found that her Adrenals weren't producing any cortisol, and she was admitted to the hospital. Since then she has been in and out of hospital three times in a week. She is unable to work, her speech is stunted and daily functions are difficult.

Over the past decade Rachelle would have random severe ailments that would appear then disappear out of thin air. She thought she was just lucky, that her body self healed; but that wasn't the case. Lymes can live In your body for years undetected. Mimicking other ailments.

Rachelle was diagnosed with lymes, Australia doesn't consider Lyme a disease that exists therefore treatment can not be covered by public healthcare.

She has a lyme specialist doctor in which she has to pay out of pocket. This is why we need your help. " - Beatrice Hirota (Hawai'i), one of Rachelle's Closest Friends

"Rachelle Bersamin, 43 years of age, a Mother, Healer, Wellness Practitioner, Writer, Fighter, Lover. Rachelle now suffers from Lyme Disease, two words that shocked us and has changed her life forever. Lyme disease is an infection caused by a bacteria known as Borrelia when bitten by a tick. The disease can impact a variety of body systems and organs, along with mimicking other illnesses. Along with Lyme Disease there a range of other co-infections such as babesia, bartonella, ehrlichia, etc.. Rachelle has faced an immense number of challenges that prevent her from going to work, driving, and even leaving the house. Every day she has 12-14 muscle spasms (very similar to seizures) that last for 15-20mins long, going in and out of consciousness, choking on her own tongue, and the worst part; it can happen at any moment and time. Not only this but Rachelle suffers from short term memory loss, stutters and at times her left leg is paralyzed. She suffers from a bloated stomach 24/7 and can be left in pain for hours on end.

Rachelle faces a number of challenges every single day, whether it be struggling to get through the day (as she mostly has to sleep 18 hours a day) or having to recover from her last muscle spasm. With your support, I know we will be able to help pay for her treatment, rent, and hopefully giving her the opportunity to get treated properly in the US or Germany as it is not recognised well here in Australia." - Rachelle's Son, Koa
