Terry Hobbes Family Fundraiser

Many of you know Terry Hobbes as a brother, son, husband, father, relative, friend, teacher or that outspoken Islanders/Mets fan in your life.  The one thing we never envisioned for Terry was not speaking his mind.  Yet here we are witnessing Terry fight to gain back control of basic motor skills, speech and cognitive brain functionality. 

For those of you just learning of what happened, here is where we stand.  On Friday August 18th Terry suffered from a blood clot in his brain.  The event left him unconscious and once he was found, he was taken to the hospital for care.  On Friday night the surgeons performed a craniotomy to relieve pressure on his brain caused by swelling.  Friday night’s surgery was a success which set up for a second round of brain surgery on Saturday August 19th.  This surgery was to remove the clot and clean up as much as possible to restore cognitive brain activity.  Again, Terry was blessed with a successful surgery.  Over the past few days, the progress has continued as he has shown small signs of recovery i.e. eyes opened, some toe and arm movement and he has shown signs of responding to verbal communication.  However the road to recovery is likely to be long with many hills, obstacles and blind corners ahead.  The risk of seizures is still something the hospital staff is monitoring and doing all that can be done.

His wife, Janine and their three children (Sara, Jillian, and Ryan) have to provide all the love and support to guide Terry back to the Terry we all know and love.  Meanwhile costs build each and every day and the Hobbes household must still go on.  Many of you have asked “what can I do to assist?”  Other than pray and be there for support, we have set up a donation site through GoFundMe.com.  Terry is fortunate to have so many people in his life that want to help. If you are so inclined please contribute.  All proceeds raised from this site are considered donations and go directly to Terry’s Family.  Funds will be used to help with medical expenses, therapy, medical equipment, childcare, etc.  Your kindness is greatly appreciated.

Terry’s Mom, Barbara, wrote a beautiful prayer.  We call on all religious denominations to keep Terry in your thoughts and prayers and join Barbara with her words:

Heavenly Father,

We call on you right now in a special way.  It is through your power that Terry was created.  Every breath Terry takes every morning, each day Terry awakes, every moment of every hour he lives under your power.

Father we ask you now to touch Terry with that same power.  For if you created Terry from nothing you can recreate Terry.  Fill Terry with the healing power of your spirit.  Cast out anything that should not be in Terry and mend what is broken.  Root out any unproductive cells, open any blocked arteries or veins and rebuild damaged areas.  Remove all inflammation and cleanse any infection. 

Let the warmth of your healing love pass through Terry’s body and make new any unhealthy areas so that Terry’s body will function the way you created it to function.

And Father, restore Terry to full health in soul, mind and body so that Terry may serve you the rest of his life.
