The Good Grief Trust
This year, in Jay's memory, I would like to take the opportunity through running and/or other events to raise money for The Good Grief Trust, an organisation which aims to provide comprehensive information for the bereaved.
So far I'll be doing Alpha Wolf (4 Wolf Run events - April, June, September & November), Lee Valley Runfest Half Marathon (April) and the Richmond Half Marathon (September). More events will be added as they are booked.
Funds are needed by The Good Grief Trust to drive a new national initiative forward and bring all bereavement services under the one umbrella via The Good Grief Guide, a new online support network, run by the bereaved, for the bereaved.
The Good Grief Trust has been set up by Linda Magistris (pictured below). Linda lost her partner Graham to a rare cancer just over 2 years ago and was shocked at the lack of understanding and information available from GP's, the hospital and hospice. There are excellent organisations and charities around Britain offering bereavement support, but often it is difficult to find them if you have not been given the correct information and advice. She subsequently discovered that there is a need for radical improvement in bereavement support in the UK and close the gaps that are currently in our bereavement net around the UK and so The Good Grief Trust was launched on BBCBreakfast in September 2014, the 2nd anniversary of Graham's death.
The funds will be used to develop a new fully comprehensive National Bereavement Pack to be available via every frontline organisation, to signpost newly bereaved to the new website and support those further along their journey, so that no one is allowed to fall through the net if they suffering from grief.
