In 2014, Tammy was diagnosed with ALS also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. ALS is a progressive and fatal neurlogical disease that attacks the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscles. There are currently no known cures for ALS but science keeps advancing and developing new treatments.
Currently, Tammy is wheelchair bound and totally dependent on others for daily living. She is dealing with medical issues ranging from slurred speech to difficulty breathing to extreme weakness in every part of her body.
Even though we have medical insurance we are having to purchase a number of non covered things to help Tammy get around and be able to live as "normally" as possible with this disease. She has to have a home health aide to care for her during the day (not covered by insurance). Although she is still able to eat by mouth, Tammy has a peg feeding tube that requires maintenance and supplies. Her breathing machine is partially covered by insurance but it comes with a steep monthly fee.
We are reaching out to you, loved ones, friends, family, anyone who can find it in their heart to help us keep Tammy happy and healthy while she continues to fight this disease. We all hope for a cure and want Tammy to be with us for as long as she can.
