The Sweeney Family

$12,780 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 179 people in 63 months
On December 26, 2013, while visiting family for Christmas, the Sweeney family was involved in a very serious 35-car accident on interstate 78 in Pennsylvania. Justin and Katie, and their children Molly and Carter, all suffered injuries. Nine year old Molly sustained the most serious injuries, with several fractures to her pelvis. Justin has a broken sternum and a partially collapsed lung. Molly and Justin were admitted to two separate hospitals in Philadelphia.
The family will soon be coming back to their home in Kennebunk, Maine.
All monies raised will go directly to the Sweeney family to help offset medical bills, travel expenses, and other expenses they will incur.

Update from the Sweeney's-

God is so good. I just got off the phone with the auto insurance appraiser who went to the salvage yard. He said, "This is the worst I have ever seen. Every single panel on your car was totaled. Thank God you're all alive." What a great reminder of the thankfulness we have that our family was spared in this accident.

We have had a flurry of doctors appointments this week after the accident. Justin's chest xray came back good and showed a healing sternum. Molly went to the orthopedic doctor and he said that she will need to be nonweightbearing on her right side for 3 more weeks but then should be able to start putting weight on it and possibly WALKING!! He expects a full recovery and should be able to even do Gymnastics again Molly is very determined and has a great attitude about life.

Thank you so much for your prayers and your help. We feel blessed by a gracious God and loved by so many wonderful friends and family.

Update from the Sweeney's: We wanted to share with everyone how amazed we are at meeting and exceeding this goal of $10,000!!! When this all started, we had no idea that we would see the extravagant outpouring of love and generosity from family, friends, neighbors, and people whom we have never even met. It is overwhelming. We wanted to give you an update on how our family is coming along. Carter is doing great and getting stir crazy from being in the house so much. Katie is doing well. She has not driven since the accident and has some anxiety about getting back behind the wheel. It doesn't make it any easier that we have a time constraint to go car shopping. Justin was able to go to church today and still has some chest pain but feeling much better. Molly is cruising around in her wheelchair much to quickly and her father is always getting on her case about being more careful. She insists, "I AM dad!". ;/ Molly has to see our primary care physician and a pediatric orthopedic doctor this week to make sure that her healing is continuing. She will also start physical therapy asap. She will be on crutches for about 6 more weeks.
We so appreciate your prayers as they have been tangibly felt by our family over this past week! God bless you all.
