One Voice Next Generation Sudanese Center is asking for your help and support to reach one of the pillars of our community center - youth programming.
$20 gets one bus pass for each camper to attend field trips.
$25 covers one camper's summer supplies.
$40 will provide a back pack and back-to-school basics for our end of the year party!
We're focusing on summer engagement for Sudanese youth in Lincoln. Having places and activities for children over the summer helps retain school progress over the gap. It also gives kids a place to be that is safe, provides meals and keeps them occupied.
We had limited events last year that were well attended but want to expand on that. The Lincoln Sudanese community has been saddened by several teen suicides so far this year. Our youth are processing a lot of trauma . It is important to us that we make spaces for different age groups to connect with others who understand what they are going through. Volunteers are ready to do educational components as well, including nutrition, school prep and physical activities.
Our back-to-school celebration was a one-day event that tried to pack as much into the day as was possible. School supplies were given out, kids going to the same schools were able to meet in advance, and a lot of fun was had!
There will still be a back to school cap at the end of the summer. Throughout June, July and August we will be busy working to keep this same energy and engagement going for our children. Every donation counts but $25 covers one kid's supplies. There is an expected 40-50 attendees predicted. With your help, this will be an entirely free service to the Sudanese community here in Lincoln.
