2016 Stand UP for Kids Olympia Wash

Donation protected
Hi everyone, I am Nanci Newhall, I am a volunteer with Stand Up For Kids in Olympia Washington.
I have volunteered in street outreach for the last 4 years. We are a 501C3 non profit national Organization. (tax deductible)
We have made a personal goal of raising $10,000.00 dollars in cash or in-kind donations to help with the costs we incur monthly in helping the homeless less kids in Thurston county Washington.  Our big goal is to have a drop in center for them. Your donations can make that goal possible

With your donations we are able to help these kids one at a time or more if we have the resource.

We help with housing costs and emergency shelter, bus passes both local and for returning home or to a safe place to live. We provide tents and sleeping bags and tarps  and Back packs. We also help with documents like Social security, Birth certificate’s, Driver licenses, Identification cards and other document that cost money.  Shoes, coats, Back packs. Food, clean sox, personal hygine items.  We walk our street’s every Friday to connect with the kids.

Please ask yourself if your child or niece or nephew or a child you loved or cared about was on the streets with out shelter or a safe place to sleep or hungry.  What would you do to help them? Would you want them in a sleeping bag under a bridge alone and scared? Please donate what you can a price of a meal, or blanket or a pair of shoes that fit. Or a tent to keep them out of the cold. These items are purchased with donations from the very generous caring people that want to help our Homeless Youth.

Thank you in advance for help.

Facts about homeless Kids:

1 Many youth who leave home are not ready to be self-sufficient. Youth are likely to leave home because of a bad situation, or being processed out of the foster care program rather than feeling ready. A hallmark of readiness is the ability to meet basic needs, such as food, shelter, medical care, and work, and many homeless youth have trouble meeting these needs. In one study, about half of homeless youth had difficulty getting enough food and a majority had spent at least one day in the past month without anything to eat.

2.When it comes to sex work, homeless youth are being coerced and manipulated, and participate out of desperation. Homeless youth are particularly vulnerable to being coerced into the commercial underground sex economy. In a 2008 study in New York City, a great majority of sexually exploited children expressed a desire to change their circumstances, but felt that they were doing what they had to do to survive.

§  Family crisis is the most prevalent reason youth and young adults identify for becoming homeless.

§  Contrary to popular stereotypes, approximately 70 – 75% of homeless youth are “local kids” who are from the immediately surrounding geographic area.

§  20-40% of homeless youth experience sexual abuse, compared to 1-3% of the general youth population.

§  Up to 60% of homeless youth have experienced physical abuse in their homes before ending up on the streets.

§  20-50% of homeless youth have been placed in foster care or an institutional setting at some point in their life. When foster care payment stops they are pushed out ready or not.

§  Studies have found high rates of mental health problems among homeless youth; mental health issues manifest both as a cause and a consequence of homelessness.

§  Homeless youth are remarkable young people with tremendous future

Please help send this message to every one you know. The awareness about the homeless youth is one of the first ways to help stop them sleeping on the streets. No child need to be left behind.
