Spenser's Outdoor Educator Funding

Donation protected
Hello All, my name is Spenser!

I hail from the Midwest and grew up amongst the woods, lakes, and fields. My mother instilled a love of nature at a young age via spectacular annual trips to explore the National Parks! In 2014 I continued those explorations on a grand road trip, documented at ToMeanderinglyScramble.com

For the last 4 years I have been working as an Outdoor Educator teaching day programs in paddling, photography, climbing, cycling, log rolling and snowshoeing. A highly rewarding career, I love to share lessons, instruct on skills and expand folks' knowledge of recreational activities in the great outdoors!

Unfortunately the nature of my position changed, with countless hours spent hidden away from the sun, face lit by the incessant blue glow of the computer screen. Comprehension set in that time was slipping away, and with it my time to transform my dreams into reality.

I needed a path that would balance work, life, exploration, and meaning. Through soul searching & discussions with loved ones I realized my dream is to immerse myself further into nature and elevate my career to the next level by guiding multi-day trips.

To reach this next level I will need to expand my skill set. My mentor Jason highly recommends the NOLS Outdoor Educator Semester to gain the experience required to guide within the National Parks and abroad. I had considered NOLS (the National Outdoor Leadership School) frequently but hesitated due to time and monetary constraints.

The Outdoor Educator Semester is 90 days in the fields of Wyoming, Utah and Colorado at the cost of $16,100. Throughout I will ecstatically be learning new skills in:
   1) Wilderness First Responder Medical Training
   2) Backcountry Skiing & Winter Travel
   3) Whitewater Canoeing & River Travel
   4) Canyoneering & Canyon Travel
   5) Multi-Pitch Rock Climbing & Vertical Travel

Striving to advance my dream I pushed past my hesitations, doubts and fears. I saved money and sought out additional funds to cover the course cost. With a plan in place, I registered for the 2017 NOLS Spring Semester for Outdoor Educators .

Frustratingly life never goes according to plan. Two of my funding sources evaporated, leaving a deficit for funds that are due by November 30th! This leaves me in a precarious position to either push off my dream or turn to my greater community of friends & family to meet this deadline.

Your contributions will go towards:
   1) Enrollment Fees
   2) Tuition Protection Plan
   3) Required Gear Purchases
   4) Travel Funds

I greatly appreciate you reading my story & helping to invest in my future! Please share my story, the more people who know, the higher my likelihood of success.

I am happy to answer questions regarding the course or my future plans. Offline donations are also accepted.

Much thanks!
