As many of you know Josh Porter had a stroke Christmas day during our family gathering. He was air lifted to UAB in Birmingham. When the paramedics arrived at mother's he said to them;"You have a Marine down" and then smiled. He has used that Marine mentality daily. His stroke was a result of high blood pressure and was a bleeding stroke. He is so blessed to have beat the odds, which we have been told were not in his favor. However, he has lost the use of his left side and with it his independence, which he is working fiercely to recover. He is self employed and pushing hard to go back to work , Southland Appraisers, which is not currently possible. So pray for his caretakers who have their hands full :) (seriously he is being a good patient).
If you have had to deal with this type of circumstance you know it is not only devastating, it quickly drains all assets. We have been blessed to have located a gentleman that has agreed to transport Josh to his doctor's appointment. This has been a big relief because currently he does not have a wheel chair accessible vehicle. Josh has afib as well as high blood pressure and it is so important for him to have these monitored, so getting back and forth to his appointments have been a huge problem.
Josh enjoys company so feel free to visit him. It has been so uplifting for him to hear from so many of his friends and family. Again, he has been blessed! He has a good attitude and is determined to walk again. He is working very hard with Home Health and their physical therapy program and is making progress. We have been told that this is a very crucial time for him and he should use all of his energy toward making a recovery. Being a Marine instilled in him that you can excell and overcome insurrmountable circumstances and he is determined to do just that!
Josh is the kind of guy that has always met challenges  with wit and creativity. He has a big heart and even days after his stroke he was in the hospital trying to start a campaign to send shoes and clothes to children in South America. He was forced to realize and committ to putting his health first so he can some day complete his campaign he feels he has been called to do.  Several of his friends and family have encouraged us to begin a GoFundMe account to use for expenses that his recovery and future will require. If you would like to contribute to this cause you may do so using this account or individual donations. All gifts/donations will be used solely for Josh's expenses while living with mother. More importantly, please pray for Josh and put him on any prayer list that you are aware of. Thanks in advance for your support and for being part of "A Small Town"!

Josh is always at home at his mother's house. He would welcome company anytime except Tuesday and Thursday mornings as he has physical therapy then. Please feel free to visit, he needs to know he is loved by many. If you have his cell number, feel free to call and chat awhile with him. Thank you for all your prayers as they are working. He is beginning to get some feeling and movement in his left leg. This is a great praise!!!
