Ice Skates for Disabled Kids

Donation protected

SkateABLE™ exists to relieve conditions associated with disability by providing specially adapted ice skating programs, equipment, and instruction to individuals with physical and developmental disabilities; and to do all such things as are incidental or ancillary to the attainment of the above purposes.

SkateABLE™ has developed a line of adaptive ice skates which makes it possible for children with any form of physical or developmental disability to participate in "stand up" ice skating. We can accommodate children with any disability including cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, Autism, Down Syndrome, language and speech delays, hearing impaired, learning disabilities, amputee, paralysis, spinal cord injury, brain injury, and general developmental coordination delays.

SkateABLE™ relies heavily on community donations and corporate sponsorships in order to purchase the equipment that makes it possible for disabled kids to skate. The adaptive skates allow skaters with foot deformities, or who wear AFOs, SMOs or orthotics, to participate in the program safely. The ice walkers and harnessess provide additional safety and security for skaters and program leaders.

SkateABLE™ anticipates that over 200 children will enroll in the program during the 2017-18 skating season, and many of them will require adaptive skates.

We've set a fundraising goal of $24,000 so that we can manufacture 500 pairs of adaptive ice skates so that we can make ice skating more accessible for children living with the effects of a disability and a dream of learning to skate.
