The average adult should have 32 teeth. Because many adults have had their “wisdom” teeth removed, they may have only 28 teeth if no other teeth have been lost.
There is some people that don’t develop all of their permanent teeth. They may be born with a condition that causes them to have fewer adult teeth.
Oligodontia is a rare genetic disorder which represents the congenital absence of more than 6 teeth in primary, permanent or both dentitions.
My name is Sierra Covert and I I have Oligodontia. I have far more than only 6 missing, and have a mouth full of primary AKA "baby teeth". I have a decreased occlusal vertical dimension, a deficient lower third of face height, a collapsed jaw. I am 24 years old, and I’ve never genuinely smiled.

My baby teeth are worn down, some of them to nearly nothing. Sometimes I lose them, but there's no tooth to replace it like you'd see happen with an average kiddo. Some of my teeth are so tiny, they are of no use. Some of my teeth are translucent, you can see the nerves inside and I can't pass any cold food or drinks over them.
Starting at about 13 years of age I got a partial denture with a few false teeth on it to replace a few teeth I had lost that were upfront, on top and need to chew with.
Recently, a front false tooth on my partial denture broke off, as well as several bottom baby teeth that started to crumble away significantly faster than their usual rate. I can't hide anymore, and I need some help.
Now, I do bust my rear end for my family (I'm a busy Military Wife with two beautiful children) but I'll tell you right now that at $2100-$5,000 per dental implant, the costs for a bone graft, sinus lift, jaw correction surgeries among various other costs...there's no way I can get myself the teeth I need.
I've kept this as private as possible, as you could likely imagine it's pretty humiliating. I am a tough chick though, and in order to make this possible I have to let the world know...I want to SMILE.
