WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP: (Please Read)
Fast Forward To What I Know Now:
My foster puppy (that I was caring for, for a rescue organization that transported her from a kill shelter in the South) has been at the hospital for four days now.
Her blood pressure and blood sugar levels when she arrived were in the low 40s- almost unmeasurable. A healthy puppy’s levels are between 80-120. A near-death puppy’s level is any lower than 65. I reiterate, her levels were in the low 40s.
The vets told us immediately that to do everything in their power to save this puppy, to even keep her alive through the end of the day, and figure out what is going on, will be at least $4,500. The rescue organization said they could not afford this type of treatment that we knew would take much longer than one day- if it worked at all.
I couldn’t just let this puppy die. I knew she wanted to fight.
I told the vets to do what had to be done, and the payment would be dealt with.
I have raised some money on my own over the past few years, and beyond that, I counted on you guys before even asking, I guess.
So far with the money I had, the puppy has been able to get three blood transfusions, along with the necessary IVs and tests. She has also been able to be in the absolute best care possible.
We found out that the puppy has Giardiasis and HookWorm. Giardiasis is an intestinal infection caused by a parasite called giardia. Dogs develop this infection usually by ingesting infectious cysts from other animal’s feces. Due to her past life in a kill shelter, this did not come as a shock.

Similarly, HookWorm is usually obtained when a puppy drinks contaminated water or are in a contaminated environment. Hookworms are intestinal parasites: specifically, worms, that live in a dog’s intestinal tract and live off of the dog’s nutrients. Once these worms consume all of the dog’s nutrients, they attach themselves to the intestinal wall and feed off of the dog’s blood.
Those two illnesses are what led to my puppy having little to no sugar, blood, energy, or appetite.
I never expected so many complications when I signed up to foster, but I believe this puppy landed in my hands for a reason.
She did not ask for this past life, but she is BEGGING for her future one.
As the vets continue to treat both of these illnesses, the bill is getting more and more expensive.
She has received 3 blood transfusions, 2 protein transfusions, and many bags of IVS along with numerous testing to make sure there are no other complications that have been caused by these incredibly brutal illnesses. I cannot continue to afford all of these treatments with your help, and she cannot afford to live without all of these treatments. So we NEED YOU.
I named her Shiloh, which means tranquility and peace. However, it is also the location of a major civil war battle.
Although Shi has had a war inside her stomach- that was caused by the war outside of herself- WE NOW have the power to bring her a life full of tranquility and peace.
She did not have the best luck before, but she has US now.
Any single donation can help us help her. Shi cannot help herself, but together, we can raise enough money to give her ONE MORE shot at the life she deserves.

A mother dog was abandoned by her owners, and given to a kill shelter, as soon as they realized she was pregnant. She was left to die there, along with the 4 babies that she birthed.
Luckily the mother and the puppies were transported to a local rescue organization that I volunteer with.
As soon as I saw them post a photo of this story I knew I had to do something. I contacted the organization asking if I could foster one of the puppies.
Thinking that this experience of fostering would be just as enjoyable, beautiful, and rewarding as my previous one with them, I was anxiously waiting for the event in hopes of getting to help one of these puppies.
As I walked into the event, I was just as heartbroken as my previous time there. There were around 25 dogs there total, including 15 that had just arrived, straight from their transport to NYC from different kill shelters around the states.
Out of all of these dogs, something brought me to choose the one little, 8 weeks old, puppy that was in a group of mutts, completely emaciated, sleeping on top of her brothers. She seemed to me, like the odd one out-- with her head facing the wall, trying to forget about the place she came from and get away from all the chaos of the screaming dogs in this tiny environment.
I could feel her pain but was hopeful that once she got out of here, she would realize she was saved.
Unfortunately, I was wrong.
She was not yet saved.
And in fact, she still is not saved.
The two days I had her at my house, I couldn’t get her to eat a single thing, and could hardly get her to lift her head up or walk around. No matter what food I put in front of her, or how I cared for her, she wouldn’t perk up for more than 3 minutes. She slept 22 hours of the day, which I was told is normal for a dog in her situation.
My instincts told me that was not the case, so I had my vet come see her on the 3rd morning.
My vet got there, and the more I told her about her case, the more she was worried. She finally put the puppy on the examination table and began to take a look at her.
The first, and last, thing she did was check her gums: they were sheet white.
Normal puppy gums are a light to dark pink.
The next thing she did was look at me and say “This puppy needs to go to the hospital right now.”
