Sharing Joy

Donation protected
Hey there Sharers of Joy, it's been a while! This year I want to keep the spirit of my mom alive and helping kids by collecting bags and backpacks for children in the foster system. If you want to skip my rambling, scroll to the bottom and see how you can help.

These are crazy times. I've been overwhelmed by the violence, racism, eviction from the planet, a particular big fat blathering hideous mouth..., it goes on and on. But what keeps me up more than anything lately is the separation of families and mass incarcerations of children.

But being paralyzed by it all is not going to help! I need to get off my ass and stop wallowing, so once again, I'm reaching out to you people to help me get the spirit of my generous, tenacious, intransigent mom Joy back in action.  She wouldn't be sitting around wallowing, that's for damn sure!

When children are removed from their home, they only have minutes to gather their belongings, which often end up in a trash bag. Please take a second to imagine being a child, alone, snatched away from your home and your family after whatever trauma led to this scary situation, taken by a stranger to other strangers, with your stuff in a freaking trash bag. A TRASH BAG!

About 700 children enter the foster system every single day in the US.  I'd like to try to collect 700 bags/backpacks and donate them to Carry On, part of the non-profit Fostering Great Ideas (https://fgi4kids.org/)

If you want to pitch in, you have options:

1. Donate money directly to https://fgi4kids.org/, and if you want your donation to count toward our tally, mention  Sharing Joy, they will keep track.

2. Donate a bag or backpack  directly to a program in your community, and post about it here if you want it to count toward our tally.

3. For those in Denver, drop offs with Carry On are scheduled so it's sort of a mishagoss for me to coordinate for you. Feel free to contact https://fgi4kids.org/ yourself and mention Sharing Joy.

4. Donate to this GoFundMe page and I'll happily go buy every backpack/bag at every Target and Walmart and Kmart I can find and drop them off!

We can't solve all of their problems, but we sure can solve this one and make sure they know people out there think they deserve more than a trash bag!

Le'ts do this!

Peace and love to you all!
