1ooovirtues goes to Shaolin Temple

Before dance, before piano, before the ukulele, the first discipline of art I studied was martial arts. I remember being a toddler coming home after tai-chi class feeling exhausted and full. I lay in bed looking out the window into the moonlight and heard the sound of my breath inside of my hands and my body. Though I didn't have the verbal or cognitive maturity to understand what was happening, I felt awakened, at peace, in awe of the miracle of life breathing in a body. This experience instilled in me a sense of inner peace, one that I cherished deeply more than any possession in my life.

In college, I studied Wushu from the Beijing Olympics Rules and Regulations Coordinator when I spent a summer semester in Beijing, China. He and I would wake up every morning at 5am to practice before the sun rise. Another life changing experience. He took me and my other classmates to Shaolin Temple to meet and see real Shaolin Monks study and train at the school. I was again in awe and promised myself that I would one day, somehow, though I didn't know how, train like them.

The following year, I discovered the USA Shaolin Temple, a martial arts school run by a Sifu Shi Yan Ming, a Shaolin Monk from the temple. I studied every day that I could. From the time of the beginning of my training to my last day of training, I was a completely different person. Martial arts has given me peace, stillness, a clear connection to Higher self as well as a practice of patience, persistence and perserverance.

I now find myself given the opportunity to train at Shaolin Temple with the Kung-fu legends, Shaolin Monks and Gold Medalist martial artists who have performed with Jackie Chan and Cirque du Soleil. This is a dream come true beyond my wildest imagination.

I am asking for your support to fund my way to China and back. I will be there for 2 weeks in July 2018, living modestly but courageously. I thank you in advance for trusting my process, and promise to return a new woman with worlds of wisdom to share with you.

Thank you infinitely for your support.
