Boy Scout Troop 248 Waltham MA

Our Scouts’ Cargo Trailer was stolen from the parking lot of First Baptist Church on Lexington St. in Waltham, Mass. just as we were about to leave for our last camping trip of the season. It was great to see the Scouts show such great team spirit despite the setbacks. We were so thankful for the last minute volunteers who stepped forward to figure out a way to make this scout trip happen. Without our trailer, many more cars and drivers were needed to fit all the equipment that would normally have been carried in the trailer. It also ends up costing more in gas and of course is no good for the environment. Without a new trailer, many upcoming trips will have to be put on hold while we regroup. Many of our bigger trips to places like Acadia, Gettysburg and Niagara Falls won’t be possible until we get a new trailer. For many of the boys, the trips are their first chance to ever experience some of these great sights, while learning team and leadership skills and enjoying and meeting other scouts while there.

The trailer makes it possible for us to carry all the camping gear, sleeping bags, camping stoves, food, backpacks and other related equipment needed. Some items are also too big to fit in a regular car, like bicycles, cooking equipment and larger tools, so we are already feeling the hardship of hits loss so we really need to get a new trailer as soon as feasibly possible. We are active year-round and camp regardless of the weather conditions, something all the boys are proud of! Some of our favorite trips have included backpacking, hiking, fishing, bicycling and Dutch oven cooking.

Funds raised will be dedicated towards buying a new cargo trailer and cover some the related costs to get it back on the road, including insurance.

Boy Scout Troop 248 is one of the oldest troops in the Boston area, having met in Waltham, MA since January 1934. We are part of the Spirit of Adventure Council. Committed to providing a traditional Scouting experience, we develop leadership skills and character, teach teamwork in an outdoor setting, and above all have fun. We are so truly thankful for any support. We’re looking forward to getting back on the trail! With our heartfelt thanks from all our Scouts!
