Phil and Annie Yochum
1,095 days since tragedy
1,095 days of triumph
1,095 ways God has shown himself true to His Word.
With great joy I am happy to report Annie is continuing to do well. It's amazing to see through these X-rays the change in her bone structure from the day she was shot to just last week when we had our check up. There is some inflammation that has developed recently surrounding the plate site. If it continues she will likely undergo surgery to remove it. The great news is in the final Xray you can see her radius is intact. The bone has regrown, praise God!!! Though her ulna is still completely separated, Dr. Streppa has approved removing the plate should we need to.
The plate is taking a large amount of weight bearing stress. Bones grow stronger by being stressed. Removing the plate will create healthy stress on the new bone growth and cause it to get stronger and grow even more. We are never not growing. Stress is a part of what forces us grow and God is faithful to do a good work through it ALL. “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” ~ James 1:2-4
Thanks to all he people who prayed and poured out help, financially and physically, to provide Annie love and care and recovery. We are blessed to have you in our lives and grateful for the support of the body of Christ. I will keep you updated as we go through this season of change. Much love and blessings !!!! Phil & Annie
It is with great joy that I get to come to you today and bring a long awaited update!!!
-Annie is a living, breathing, walking and running miracle. She had her 1 yr check up where X-rays were taken to view the change in her front leg. Dr. Streppa said there has been a considerable amount of bone growth!!! The metal plate inside her front right leg is holding strong with no sign of any stress or infection. She also said that if the plate did fail at some point, she felt good about the possibility of sound structure without it. Praise God!!!
All the gut issues that plagued her have vanished, and she is happy to be eating her new food made from duck (fancy). We still walk half a mile every morning, with her sprinting out of the gate from excitement. 2 a days are on order from the doc, so she will get one at night as well....ALL of Annie is back. Every mannerism, quirk, no visible sign of the trauma in her spirit. She is whole, minus one part---From the emergent care at nashville emergency pet clinic, the special care she received at Nashville Vet Specialists and the custom brace made by Orthopets, the the only thing she has actually lost is lost..... is a toe nail... God is good.
When I playback that tape in my head, I am still in awe of His hand on Annie as we both went through the subsequent days of this tribulation. God's involvement cannot be denied, but rather embraced and proclaimed; for the GOOD that has come from this IS the kind of stuff only He can order. From each person that operated or loved on her in the ICU--- to each person that contributed to this fund and to me personally---- God has been true to His Word---- Romans 8:28. As I went through the timeline of events last night I was thankful to have had His hand move and provide the way to bring Annie from a 20% chance of life that night- back to her life as she knew it, in abundance.
~Thank You Jesus, for showing me Your true nature inside a situation that was beyond my understanding. I know now, personally, the lengths that You will go to bring Your children back to You. I am humbled by Your ways and overjoyed for the promise within them. Psalm 33:18-22.
With much love for every one of you supporters and many thanks for every prayer from you. Know that they have been more than answered. - Phil and Annie Yochum
Everything with Annie is great! Her attitude is spunky and full of energy most days. She has been sleeping longer in the morning lately q(note pic), but Dad doesn't mind ;)
We have had the custom leg brace since February. It's holding up to the wear and tear pretty well. I did maintenance last week, changing out the straps and tread; re-gluing some places that have lost their grip. I'm grateful to the people at Orthopets. Without their product and dedicated correspondence, Annie would not be as happy or as structurally sound. It is a true miracle, the story of Annie. I am thankful for, and humbled by her presence in my life. It keeps my feet on the ground..... Till next time !!
Phil & Annie
Annie's spirit is strong as ever these days, although her back leg is showing some new irritation from her brace. I am working closely with Orthopets to asses what might have changed. I also took her to see Dr. Streppa to check if anything has changed internally. Her report- legs look the same, no change... which is what we want to hear:) She could be two less pounds, but miss Annie won't give up her PB bones, and I won't try to take em' ! Lol We have dropped 5 of the 7 pounds she shouldn't have considering her compromised bone structure....enough ;)
Also, her gut has settled, which I am happy to say. Even on our trip to see family in St. Louis, her tummy did ok.
Hope this finds everyone well. I will update when we learn more about her brace check up.
Phil and Annie
Phil, I contacted Erchonia Laser on Monday morning, and one of the owners will be shipping you a laser for multi treatments per day on Annie. As I told you, this will dramatically help her injuries heal quicker. Please let me know when you receive it so I can walk you through it's application. Hang in there.
Phil, I am heart-broken for you and Annie. I sincerely wish I had more than $10 to donate but I know every little bit will help. I have 2 'babies' at home and know how they are family and not pets. I was struck today watching your interview when you spoke of her 'arm'. That is exactly how I talk about my boys. You can see how much you love her and I am praying so hard that she makes a speedy recovery. I would probably get in trouble if I voiced what I hope happens to the piece of garbage that did this to her. They may get away with it now but Mother Karma will most certainly catch up with them. Hang in there and know that there are alot of good people still out there that have the two of you in our thoughts and prayers.
Years ago I had a dachshund who was my life. He passed away last August. But when he was around 3 years old he was mauled by a bullmastiff. He nearly lost his life. Almost lost his front right leg and it ripped the muscle going down his back in half. When it happened I was standing there in shock wanting to grab him away but the mastiff was as big as me. Luckily, a friend tackled him and startled the mastiff enough to free my dog. I slid across the floor to gather him in my arms. The blood was of no consequence. We rushed him to the puppy ER and after two surgeries and 40 stitches he pulled through. The reason I am saying all this is because I know he pulled through for me. I needed him and he knew it. So he was brave. He was strong. And I think he made it on sheer force of will alone. Annie will be like that. I don't know her, I don't know you but I know what that connection is and she can feel it. You being there is the best thing you can do for her. You're an amazing dog parent and I know how hard it is when they're hurt and they don't understand why. Just keep being there for her and all f us here, those who know you and those who don't, will keep being there for you :)
Phil, I sincerely wish I had more than $10 to donate but I know every little bit helps. I cannot imagine what you are going through. I was touched watching your interview on Ch. 5 today and how you spoke about her 'arm' being hurt. I have 2 'boys' of my own and that is exactly how I speak about them. They are not my pets, they are my family. It is obvious how much you love your girl. She is such a heroine and yes, she probably did take those bullets for you. I cannot voice in public what I hope happens to the piece of garbage that did this to her because I would probably get in trouble. They may get away with it for now however I am certain that Mother Karma is going to catch up with them. Take comfort in the fact that there are alot of good people out there that have the both of you in our hearts and prayers.
Lovin' and prayin' for you and your Dear Annie. Lifting you and your Love Bug up to the Lord and His Father. Also sending praise, love and continued strength to the Clinic doctors and personnel involved with our Sweet Annie Girl. Luv ya, Phil!! Bill & Merri xoxo
Our pets deserve to be safe in their homes. I am so tired of people hurting animals and they get a slap on the wrist, no jail time because it is a misdemeanor. The laws need to be changed......hurt our animals and it is a Felony. She did not attack an innocent stranger in the park. This bastard broke in to HER home with a GUN. This needs to stop now. We can put a stop to this now
