Our daughter, granddaughter, big sister, cousin, friend, student, classmate, Katie, Kate, Katelyn Paige Leshuk (18), was diagnosed with Classic Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, CANCER of the lymphatic system, which is part of her immune system. She’s still in process of Staging either 2 or 3 (Stages range from 1, less sever to 4 most sever).

As of May 5, she is getting to her 3rd round of treatment, with 12 total, estimated months were 6, depending on other factors. She has lost much of her hair, is fatigued, sore, tired, and has other body issues going on.

Here's a bit about our Kate and her journey!

Katelyn graduated high school a few month early, in 2018. She moved to Texas to pursue a dream of eventually working for herself. She began work with her grandparents, learning their business, with the idea of eventually taking it over after they retire.

Soon after she moved, she developed symptoms that were not going away. Katelyn’s neck is swollen, painful bumps under skin, chest pain, and has fatigue, fevers, night sweats, as well as emotional ups and downs.

She had scans, blood tests, and a biopsy done. She went in for a bone marrow biopsy, more scans, and a port-a-cath implanted in her chest. It can be used to give chemotherapy or medicine into her vein, or to take blood.

Treatments that may come are Chemotherapy, radiation, immune, and targeted therapy, bone marrow samples/transplant, follow up care, and possible fertility treatments.

Side effects of this disease and treatment are hair loss, weight loss/gain, nausea, fatigue, heart damage, other cancers, increase risk of infections, and infertility.

We would like to support her without financial worry. Any monies raised will go towards medical bills, therapies, future needs, and medical travel expense. She will not be working as much, if at all, during her treatments.

Katelyn has also experienced EXTREME TRAUMA in her teenage years. Setting normal teen issues aside, she had unimaginable things happen (a story she will tell when ready). This created extreme stress, anxiety, loss, despair, sadness, frustration, fear, guilt, shame, what ifs, anger, nearly unbearable heartache, loss of sleep and so SO much more. She will be healing for the rest of her LIFE. It is my hopes to lessen her burdens.

If you are unable to donate financially, we ask that you say a special PRAYER for our Katelyn, that her body finds the strength to beat this and THRIVE. As she heads into a very tough few months and possibly years, she has her sights set on a skydiving adventure, traveling to new places, and further down the road enjoying a family of her own.

We ask that you please share her story with your family, friends, and colleagues.

***Others ways to help are to attend or help with fundraisers and donating to

Katelyn’s benefit account at Black Hills Federal Credit Union, 225 Main St, Rapid City · (605) 718-1818, 100% of those funds will go to her expenses. Pay to the order of "Benefit of Katelyn Leshuk" via Ramona Nyffler.  Any questions please ask!

Thank you so much for taking the time to learn a bit more about OUR Katie!

Ramona and the rest of Team Katie!

This morning, April 11th, Katelyn heads into her 2nd round of chemo. The first was 2 weeks ago, it was rough emotionally and physically. Each treatment is hours long. She brings a book, coloring book, blanket, crackers, mom and phone, to help pass the time. After chemo the next few days are exhausting and draining. Please keep Our kate in your thoughts today and days coming. If you feel the urge to send her a letter/card, gift of support please message me for info on how.
Also please keep praying, sharing and donating when possible.
Donations will be going towards medication not cover, other expenses that come along the way, then finally maybe a Celebration for the end of Cancer in her!

Kate had her fertility consultation last week. They confirmed she is at a lower risk of infertility, recommended a shot to potentially help reduce the risk. She getting rest, trying to stay healthy, eat better, and use products recommended by oncologist.

News from Kate from Chemo Class Wednesday, First Chemo treatment Thursday and in for a follow up shot Friday...

"Officially done with first treatment. I have to come back for three days in a row after every treatment to get a WBC shot. 3 shots everytime and it causes bone pain.. enough to where they can give me pain meds Yeah... not happy about that. The numbing cream they prescribed me really helped and I didn't feel the needle poke at all. I was still scared tho. And then I pretty much just sit there and they come around when my machine beeps to change medicines, for 3 hours. Then they flush it out and clean it and bandage me up That dont mean I'll ever be ok with get. Kinda have (got use to) the taking blood part but now that I have a port it's easier... The needle is the same size they use to draw blood from it. Not very big. It closes yes but leaving it in for 3 hours makes it open so they bandage me up for leakage and stuff after and bleeding. I already feel like shit. Really if this is how it gonna feel, even worse this sucks. Bad... Had to go get that WBC shot today (Friday). Didn't hurt that bad at all. Heard it gives bone pain and muscle pain a little after tho. Thankfully they hooked me up and gave me more anti nausea stuff through my port today. It was bad. Almost threw up while checking in and had to run outside....WBC shot it to keep my white blood cells up and helps with my bone marrow and keeps it strong. "
